Shower control fix

On the new Rockwood 8285WS I have, the shower control is backwards !!!

Think about it? Which way does a hot and cold water knob turn to open & close?? On my "ROCKY" from the factory, I had to turn the hot water knob
CLOCKWISE to increase the hot water! Yes clockwise. Now, we all know from as far back as we can remember (a long ways for me) you always had to turn the hot and cold faucet on a sink, lavatory, shower clockwise to turn the water off, Right ? You had to turn the controls counter clockwise to get more hot water and cold water. Now, we are getting the big picture here. Well why does Rockwood plumbers install the shower control upside down ?? Go look at yours and tell me if the shower hose is coming out of the top of the control ? UH-HUH, I was right wasn't I ?

I removed the complete shower control fixture, flipped it over with the shower hose coming out the bottom. I use the "OXYGENICS" shower head and standard hose that come with it.

Turn off the water pressure, remove the four screws. A little common sense is all that is required ( I had to put my gum away while I was doing this, sometime it is hard for me to chew gum and walk at the same time). The shower assembly is easy to remove. Remove the front "C" & "H" disk from the two control knobs, remove the two screws that hold the knobs on, remove the knobs. Simply start at the bottom of the assembly, pry carefully the housing away from the wall of the shower.
Look behind the assembly, there are two "round" connection pipe nuts, they should be only hand tight ( I did have to use pliers to loosen mine) BE VERY CAREFUL AT THIS POINT--
DO NOT DROP THE COMPRESSION SEALS BEHIND THE SHOWER WALL.
They are located inside the compression nuts. I had to remove the shower body from the housing by removing the two large black hand nuts.
Perform the "FLIP" of the hot and cold (while you have it loose, flip the small back splash casing, small white hosing (see picture) so the print and taper sides look just like the picture. Look closely the small white plastic casing, it should be wider at the bottom than the top directly behind the knobs. The shower hose fitting should now be protruding out the bottom of the assembly. Once you are satisfied you have connected the hot and cold water lines to the back of the assembly, make sure the water "NUTS" are tight enough to prevent leaking, you may have to use pliers to assist in tightening the round nots. Attach the shower hose to the assembly ( you can now turn the water on to test it) Reattach the assembly back on to the shower wall. Be careful as not to tighten the four screws too much (prevent stripping) Re-caulk with a good silicone across the top and side, do not caulk across the bottom. By not caulking the bottom, it will provide drainage of any water that may get behind the housing. The large white housing with the four screw is the only part that you do not flip !!!!

Hope this will help someone to correct a factory screw up. Took me about 1 hour of time from start to finish.

If you have any questions PM me, I will assist as much as my "GUM" will let me!

Flipped mine today while installing the Oxygenics I bought over the winter. Thanks DaisyBoykin, I always thought something seemed wrong with the shower knobs but never gave it enough thought to figure out what was wrong. You saved me the mental effort.

Glad to have helped someone to get it right !

I now would like to know why Rockwood's plumbers install the fixture upside down. Even if you look at the trim around the shower feed fitting, water can get behind the fixture when the shower is being used.
Does make you feel good to know that you have corrected a BOO-BOO from the factory. Maybe I should call Rockwood Monday to inform them of the screw up with the shower fixture.

Even today, I received my replacement VIN stickers and DOT tire pressure data from Forest River. My new DOT, VIN stickers are correct. Hardest part was removing the old stickers. When you peeled the old stickers off, VOID, VOID, VOID, VOID, VOID, VOID, VOID was left every where. Those buggers were hard to remove.

Add another one to the list...my shower faucet AND my outside faucet on my Roo are wrong, as well. Figured I'd get the dealer to fix it under warranty the next time it's in for service.
