Shower Faucet Seal Replacement prior to winterizing

Well, on our last outing after pulling into campsite, we found that we had a fresh water leak that I traced to the shower. Not sure how this came to show itself, as we travel with the pump off, but I spent quite some time tracking it down to the rear of the faucet assembly where the hot water comes into the faucet. The assembly is still apart as I have asked my wife, who works for the trailer place that we bought the trailer from, if she would pick up new seals. The one that failed was a white seal. She has been told that not only should these seals have NOT failed, that they cannot be replaced, as they can not get replacements. She was told to replace the entire faucet assembly. If this is correct, I have no problem with it as these faucets are quite inexpensive, otherwise, where does one get these seals? Thanks. As usual, I certainly appreciate the input.

Not sure if it piping nut connection to the fixture or the valve bonnet (stem and housing ) that screw into the fixture. Not sure if o'ring or flat gasket however there is always Permatex "form a gasket" just a silicon tube material you can squeeze into the retaining groove and tighten against it.

On my outside shower the gasket was fine. It was the screw-bonnet that had cracked. About a $10 repair. Found the part that I needed on a peg-board at Camping World.

VinceU, it is the seal at the pipe fitting on the rear of the shower assy. There was a white seal there. As I don't want this issue to arise again, as Johnemt mentioned this fixture isn't repair friendly I am thinking that I might trim about 1/2" off both lines, install new fittings as well as a new shower assy. Heck when I took the shower head off I saw that the head had a crack in it. So here comes the oxygenics (sp?) shower head...thanks again guys.

Don't believe it was freeze damage. I know that it was winterized last year before we purchased it. When we brought it back to the dealer they went through everything and ended up replacing the outside shower (complete) as they found it cracked. However other than that everything seemed alright. I do have another plumbing question, however I need to upload pics... Winterizing though seemed like it was done thoroughly.

these cheap faucets seem to crack (in the back) very often, I have replaced inside shower, outside shower, kitchen faucet, and lastly bathroom faucet... same on my old unit. ;-) I replaced mine with an "upgraded" style that appears to be of much higher quality!

Thanks Viper...in trying to find this "upgraded" style, is this something that CW or Amazon carry. I was looking at both sites last night and found several selections and unless half-zeimers is kicking in I don't remember anything being listed as such. Of course I could revisit those sites.

Crushor - I try to stay out of CW for fear of maxing out my credit cards! I tend to buy EVERYTHING online, mostly on Ebay but occasionally on Amazon as well. I attached some pictures of what came with my TT and what I installed afterwards, the original faucets had really unattractive tinted knob style handles (circa 1985) the newer ones have "lever" type handles, the shower and bathroom faucet match and are made by Empire Brass Company (pics attached)

here are the current links on Ebay
RV Mobile Home Marine Parts. Bathroom Sink Faucet Lav White Finish | eBay
and
4" Shower Faucet RV Marine White w/ easy to use Tea Pot handles Free Shipping! | eBay

in my kitchen I installed a Moen residential style faucet, when I get home tonight I will snap a pic! its a really neat setup, I wanted a side sprayer but my TT sink only has 3 holes, with this setup the third hole is utilized by a sprayer... yes I could have gotten one that the spigot itself pulls out but I found them to be rather expensive and bulky looking in the TT

Crushor, as promised here is the picture of the Moen faucet I installed in the kitchen area and a picture of the cheap "plasta-chrome" one that broke, spewing water all over the TT until I could turn the city water off. I didn't actually take a pic of the faucet installed in my trailer because I still have last nights dirty dishes sitting in the sink so a picture of the box with a picture of the faucet will just have to work for now as you can see from the picture its a single lever faucet and the third mounting hole (far right) is where the sprayer is located. this was $78.00 (one of the cheapest Moen fixtures with a sprayer) plus some misc connection adapters to allow it to be connected to the TT water lines, all purchased at Home Depot (needed it that day) and I'll say something else for Moen, they stand behind their products, my parents built their house in the early 90's and sent in owner registration cards on all their fixtures, and when they break, they send you a NEW replacement parts/fixtures NO QUESTIONS!

the new bathroom fixtures are still plastic, and feel cheap in comparison to the Moen... however the plastic seem to be of much higher quality than the ones that came with the trailer and they have yet to turn yellow from the sunlight thru the sky light. but only time will tell as I haven't had them a year yet

Thanks again for the information. I will be looking into a new faucet fixture for the shower this weekend. Hopefully by the end of the year I will complete the "exchange program." Looking to camp a lot next year, so this winter will be a busy one.

Well, I finally had a chance to get ahold of the parts that I wanted to repair the leaking shower faucet on our TT. The faucet assembly is still a Phoenix, but is an grade as it has brass inner workings instead of the plastic offering that must have been stock for nearly all TTs. My wife and I chose the brass color so as to blend with the surrounding trim on the shower. The water fittings that were installed were cut off and 1/2 CTS 1/2 NPS fittings were used and once put back together I added the Oxygenics shower head.
