Shower repair.

We have a 26' Salem and the shower faucet is broken. How do I remove the faucet?

The repair is very simple. The tough part is do you have an access panel to the shower head? I am sitting here wondering where mine is? I have a access panel on the bottom of the shower stall, but I do not recall seeing one for the shower head. (14' Puma 30RKSS). In this case I am guessing the faucet comes off from the inside of the shower. Either way, turn off the water and then let the lines bleed before your start. You may find a home replacement faucet is cheaper and better made than the RV faucet, just watch the hose connection. Twist off the hot and cold. they should be blue cold and red hot, or marked with colored tape. There maybe a twist connector holding the faucet to the wall, remove those and the old should come out now. Reinstall by reversing the process. Clean the old and re-tape with plumbing tape before connecting the water. turn the water supply back on check for leaks, reinstall the cover. I did this on my old trailer, took longer taking the cover off and on then the actual replacement. Oddly enough there was no plumbers putty on the old faucet, and it never leaked. I did not add plumbers putty on the new and it also never leaked. However, it wouldn't hurt to place a very thin bead on the plastic gasket if you choose to. I am sure if you "googled" the internet you will find a video of somebody doing this project. Good Luck to you!

shower faucet repair

Thank you for the reply to my question. That's is the problem I'm having. I don't have an access panel that I can find to the faucet. It is in the bathtub and I'm afraid I am going to have to take the wall apart to access the back of the tub and shower enclosure.

We just looked at it once again and it looks like we will have to take the shower enclosure loose to pull it back enough to access the faucet. Is that correct?

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I would say Stop and do not pull the wall away. It doesn't make sense to do that. Look at the faucet itself. Is there anything to suggest that it would come off the wall? Look on the under side, a screw a small cap with a screw under it?

Where is the closest RV dealer? If practical go right to the service department and ask them. They will tell you. If my trailer was accessible I would go look for a solution in mine for you, but I don't think it involves taking the wall out. (The engineering can not be that bad...can it?) I will try some further research on this....

shower repair

Thanks for your help. We got it fixed. We do go out and ask the service department at our RV repair. They suggested that it wouldn't be a bad idea to install an access panel on the wall. The only other way to access it was to take the enclosure loose and they agreed with you that that wasn't practical. By putting in an access panel I had it fixed in 30 minutes.
Again thanks,

I don't know what year or type of Salem you have, but is it possible the panel is on an exterior wall or inside a wardrobe closet? Maybe just call the manufacturer. The next best option I would suggest is to make a panel. You can by a consumer panel at a big box store and cut a hole to fit, providing the faucet is on a inside wall.

Please disregard my last post. Looks like that suggestion was the solution. Still seems like the engineers skipped something.......something important!

Have a great summer camping!
