Shower walls waterproof?
Hope this is the right sub-forum...
Our camper has the same wall material in the shower as the rest of the camper. Our Stealership told me that it is waterproof, but, well, you know...
Don't know if we'll ever use the shower, but was wondering if any of ya'll have experienced issues?
Also wondering if there is a spray-on waterproofing anyone has used?
I'd like to install a liner, but fun coupon$ are rather short...

If you are saying the shower walls are the same paper covered lauan as in most R/V's then I wouldn't say it is waterproof. Maybe water repellent but even that is stretching it.
Rustoleum is making a NeverWet spray that I've started to use on a lot of things. They make several different formulas. Choose the one you think best suits what your walls are made of.
I would certainly spray something on the shower walls if it were mine.

If you're on the app on a smartphone, then you don't see the signatures. So by putting it in your profile people can easily look it up.

Please post a picture of your shower area and one of your regular walls. I am sure that everyone here that has had an RV for a bit will jump in if it is not right.

It is waterproof. There is no need to paint it or do anything else.

What do guys you think about the trim around the tub and the screws? I have a similar bath and there is no sealant around the trim or on the screws. I notice this after are first trip when several stripped screws backed out. My last two campers did not have any screws or trim where the walls meet the tub.

I have not seen this type of shower in any unit.
Hmm.. the wall is enough to raise an eyebrow on it own. The trim does look like it could be a water catch? Think I would remove the trim to have a look behind it. See if any water is getting past the trim and if so where it goes. Think I would also caulk the screw holes, add a couple of toothpicks and re-screw.
Maybe someone could post better pics of this wall and trim.

OK, added info to my profile, as requested.
But still no pix.
The wallboard in the shower is the same throughout the rest of the camper, but is caulked at the corners, and around the tub and fixtures.

Our first trailer was like that. We showered in it 100+ times and never had an issue. I never liked it though.
I've seen people get plastic sheets and install them on the walls.

The first time I noticed the showers without the fiberglass surrounds were in Jayco's a couple of years ago at a show. I think it was the Jay Feather SLX line. Maybe the surround was optional as I know their water heaters are or used to be.
Evidently the vinyl paper covered luan plywood is waterproof enough. I am not sure if I would trust it long term if using the shower a lot, I'd add a surround or at least throw up some FRP around it. IMO the only purpose it serves is eliminating the cost of installing a $200 surround, sort of like installing entry doors that do not have windows. I always thought that was dumb and looked like hell. Maybe they could use the interior panels on the outside sidewall and roof if they're that waterproof?

Possibly the "new style" construction is a weight saver as well as a cost saver for FR.
In any multi-piece shower/bath assembly, regular inspection of all joints is an absolute must. Everything must be properly caulked and sealed. It only takes a small failure to start serious damage to other areas.
