Sloshing the black tank
Going up to the lake this weekend with the kids. They have complained about the "smell"I told them fill the tank about half way with water add some liquid dish soap and ice cubes and drain it when we get there. Am i missing anything?
Thanks
Mike
And i have no clue if sloshing is even a word.

A guy on Youtube pretty much debunked the "put ice in the tank" idea.
I put my faith in eco drop-ins and a small amount of fabric softener.

Capful of Purex, capful of Calgon, a packet of your favorite tank treatment (Potty Tabs, TST, Aqua-Chem, whatever,) and 5 gal of water. Sloshing is a word, btw, and it's your friend in this case...
That's my treatment for every tank every time, not just for "slosh cleaning" while underway.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have had the flush king for a few years and always wondered how well it really works. I guess just ok...

Very good video. No mention of ice though. I have a tank flush on my 27RKSS the kid's dont so probably have them put the garden hose down the toilet.
Thank you.

Here is another site with some good info.
https://sites.google.com/site/cbruni/
The "Geo Method" they talk about is what Taranwanderer is using (except for the tank treatment). I've used the Geo Method without a tank treatment and didn't have any issues with smell. I prefer not to use bleach very often though.
This year I decided to take Herk's advice and I'm going to do a RV Digest-It treatment once a year on the black and grey tanks.

I've always heard that Ice works best when the tank was left dirty to dry. As in, not well maintained. Sounds like the flush kit that comes with the 2015 1/2 will work great. Those of us with the 2015 first gens, are stuck with the age old problem unless we want to mount a flush kit in it. PS, who doesn't drive a minimum of an hour from cg to home? Icebreaker trip last weekend was 1.5 hours away. And I added a few gallons of water to the tank before travel.

Cap of softer, cap of cheap laundry detergent from Dollar Store. Good to go. Dump at destination. Use little tank treatment and dump when full.

The best part of the ice video is watching his frustrated wife trying to clean a dish with ice cubes

One of the weirdest things up here in CT, Calgon and water softeners are hard to find.

The parks where I go typically have a dump station at the exit and I don't have a dump station at home. If I'm heading home, the tank is empty before I hit the road.
I get the benefit of sloshing around the tank by adding 5 gallons to the black tank with water softener and laundry detergent before leaving home. I don't worry about that for the gray water tank and don't want to reduce my gray water capacity. The gray and black tanks being equal sized, the likelihood of my filling the black tank before being at a dump station is remote.
Speaking of gray tanks and black tanks being equal size, why do the manufacturers size them that way? If limited by overall weight capacity, wouldn't a 1:2 tank size ratio make more sense? I'd get a 33% increase in gray capacity and the likelihood of filling the black tank would still be very low.
Perhaps it's because owner's object less to dumping gray overflow in portable tanks they object to dumping black overflow? Oversizing the black tank means your never have to dump it except when you're at a dump station.

Cup of SuperClean and 3-4 gal of water in ea. holding tank and tow home. Tanks are clean. Drain when we get home in the country and ready to go next time. Do have the Blue Streak on the toilet, but instead of using their chemical, I just mix about a cup of SuperClean, capful of Pinesol and fill the container with water. Works great!
