Suburban hot water heater not working on electric

I welcome any ideas. I just replaced the element and it's still not working. I don't see any fixes blown. Click image for larger version

The two black buttons in your photo are resets. Try pressing on them. Make sure your outside electric switch is

Make sure there is water in the heater before doing anything. Flip up the lever on the temp/pressure relief valve at the top to make sure. You turn on the heating element with no water in the tank, and you just burned up your new element.

1. Has it worked on electric before.
2. Are you plugged into an 120 volt power source and/or is the water heater plugged into an outlet (on the backside) and is the circuit breaker turned on that controls the water heater (120 volt AC stuff has circuit breakers, 12 volt DC has fuses)
3. Is the electric switch in the bottom right hand corner turned on
4. Have you checked the ECO hi limit/thermostat behind the rubber cover to see if it is tripped or burned out? have you pushed the reset button on the left thermostat?

I know this sounds weird, but are you sure you replaced the element and not the anode rod. I have a reason for asking such.

Doesn't matter. If you feel either one snap when you push it, it was tripped. They are snap discs.

BTW: In item #3, wmtire meant "Is the electric switch in the bottom LEFT hand corner turned on?" (It's behind that coil in the gas line in his pic.)

Yep turned on

I've pressed the reset buttons so time will tell if it worked.

Yep, left hand corner. Thanks.

I was on the computer, so can't blame that one on autocorrect. Lol

Ok well it tried to push the reset buttons last night and it didn't work. Tried again this morning and still nothing. The cover for the buttons is really hard but I think I'm hitting the buttons. Any other ideas?

A lot of times if you burn out the element, it also burns out the fusible link between the hi-limit and the thermostat.....so no power is reaching the element if this happens.

You can take off the rubber cover over the reset buttons to the ECO hi-limit/thermostats to check for power at that point. It's also let you know if your black switch is operating if you have 120 volts on one side of the ECO/Thermostat.

You can visually see if the fusible link is burned out, like it is in this pic. Notice how it's burned out on the left ECO/Thermostat (which is the one to the electric element). The right one goes to the 12 volt propane side.

This fusible link is the little thin wire between the top and bottom.

Get your volt meter out and start eliminating possible issues . are you sure you have 120v do you have 120 at the thermostats ? do you have 120 at the element ? etc

Pull the cover off (2 screws) and check that the fuseable link between the thermostats has not melted.

I have to ask again, are you positive you have water in the tank?

Have you flipped up the lever on the temp/pressure relief valve to verify there is water in the tank?

Do you have hot water using propane for sure too. I'm trying to also verify you don't have the bypass valves incorrect....which is common as per the link below

At this point, if it were me, I'd remove the resets and the switch and check their continuity individually.

Why remove them? Just check for 115 volts at each wire terminal. 115 volts in/115volts out.

Figured he'd already tried that.

Well, if there's volts on one terminal and not on the other and the reset has no effect or can't be done the thermostat is bad. Just change it.

Well the second screw holding the reset button cover is blocked by what appears to be the gas line coming in.

Yes there is water in the tank. I'm currently running the propane to heat the hot water.
