Suburban Hot Water Heater Problem

While camping the other day I was using electric to heat the water. After about two hours I noticed that the water wasnt getting hot any longer. Upon investigation I found that the rocker switch was stuck in the "on" position. I couldnt budge it. It was stuck fast. I went ahead and turned of the breaker switch for it and used propane to heat the water. Any Ideas why the switch would freeze up?

Thanks in advance.
