tankless water heater

New to RVing and forums--in fact haven't bought one yet.
looking at a Rockwood lite.
My question is has any one have any experience with a tankless water heater.
I want to have the dealer in stall one--would like to hear about best models and cost

The best would be the Truma but not cheap, we have had a Girard and now the Truma and like the Truma the best

We love the tankless. Works great for full hookups and boondocking both. Combined with a Shower Miser, it's perfect!
Any chance you can order your RV with the tankless option? That would be ideal.

Wife said no.

She is a navy shower person. Turns the water off. Less water usage and waste. Grew up in a house with one shower, 30 gallon water heater, and 10 people.

Also she likes the non use of propane when plugged in.

Our 12 gallon heater never runs out. They can be set to run on gas and electric for almost instant recovery time.

There is a learning curve to the tankless. You have to set it and not turn it off and on. Or you get a cheap thrill!

The Truma, do not know how to spell it, has a small tank and eliminates the complaints of cold blasts.

I believe Cedar Creek Hathaway had so many complaints that their standard is the tanked heater again.

Don't know much about tankless water heaters but if you plan on dry camping or boondocking, you would probably one that uses propane.

I think the on demand are only propane.

The old style HW heaters work on propane OR 120v ,

If you plan on using campgrounds the avilable120v is great.A propane range is very economical, and 120V heating may be enough , above freezing temps.

If most camping will be boon docking the instant HW MIGHT save some propane .

A propane reefer is usually the best choice.

Our current RV has a tankless. NOT impressed. Lousy setup for Navy showers, on/off dish washing... Terrible setup for conserving water in an RV.

I preferred the 6 gallon tank propane/electric in our previous RV.

Also have tankless at home. Not great, but at least there is no need for Navy showers at home!

Checkout the Shower Miser. They also make one for your sinks. This solved the only complaint we had with the tankless, which was water waste and and the affects of turning off the water during navy showers. It might work for you.

You must have the Girard brand, yes you get a cold blast every time you shut off and on, we had that but now with the Truma it is not as bad.

Right you are...it's a Girard. Riverstone wanted about $1300 to replace it with a Truma. I declined.

Glad the Truma is working for you. I believe it fires up a little faster and with more heat. That, and the small tank seems like a much better approach.

About half of our camping is with full hook ups where water use isn't an issue. The other times we are taking Navy showers. Either way the Truma performs flawlessly.
