Thetford toilet bowl doesn't hold water

I have a model. 34060 Thetford toilet with the foot pedal. The bowl will not hold water any more. I assume that the black ring is a seal. Is that easy to repair. Does anyone have any directions for me? Also, is that part common at my local TV dealer? Thanks!,

Your local dealer may have the correct seals. When I had my Cougar I had the same trouble, bought the seals at Camping World. Toilet came apart real easy, fix was easy, took about an hour.

When I first camped in my Sabre 5th wheel the seal came loose and would not hold water. Luckily the seal was on a little ledge before entering the black tank. I was able to retrieve the seal and reinstall. You can do this without taking the commode apart. It is a process of determining the correct position of the seal and working it back into position in the top side of the commode drain. It takes a little trial and error to get it seated. Sometime a little Vaseline helps.

Go to the Thetford website, find your toilet, and then look on the schematic and find what you need. It will probably be a ball and seal and everything you need comes in one kit. Then look on EBay and find that kit. It will be cheaper and faster than ordering from Thetford. I ordered a part from Thetford and it took 10-12 days for delivery. I ordered others from EBay; free shipping and got them in @ 3-4 days. These kits will have complete instructions and it is fairly simple. WEAR rubber gloves!!

Another possibility for the toilet bowl not holding water could be a buildup of mineral scale on the gasket. This is caused by minerals such as limestone in the water supply. There are several mineral scale removal products available that can help. I have had very good results with a product called Lime Away. It's available at Dollar Tree stores.

Thanks for all the advice. I am wondering if it was the mineral build up or just dried out over the winter, because now it seems to be holding some water again after several uses.

Just replaced the seal on my style magic plus last weekend. I purchased the replacement seal on Amazon $18.00. Job was not hard but It did take about three hours, but the toilet looks like new after replacing all the tubing and cleaned everything.
We will see if the new seal last for five years like the original.

Our old 5er Cougar did the same thing. We were told by a fellow camper that if you call Thetford on the phone they will send you a seal in the mail for free. We did and they did!! Easy Peasy
