Third valve at water heater...

My XLR27HFS was winterized by the dealer last fall and we headed out on a trip with me thinking I could dewinterize on the road. The result was no hot water...

I "found" the water heater under the bed... and get the part of turning the cold and hot water line valves on...but there is a third vave beween the hot water and cold water valves. What position should it be in...?

(If ignorance is bliss I'm overcome by blissfullness )

Just off the top of my head I would say in the off position, in order to let the water flow into the tank and out to the taps, instead of bypassing the heater.

You have to close it to force the water through the hot water heater.

Thank you both. Once I read your posts the obvious-ness of this was...obvious. I just needed someone to rattle my brain...
