Toilet chemical thought

Developed a strong black tank odor in the trailer this past week. Dumped the tank and cleaned it really good. Added 1 pack of chemicals as directed with a gallon of water. Just thinking out loud that the chemical and water is all in the waste line by the dump valve. I wonder if it makes it's way up into the holding tank as it fills up. Very interesting.

Any thoughts?

I use geo method but I always add from the toilet so it goes into tank.

I also add it in the toilet but with the tank and the pipe empty when you dump it into the toilet it first fills up the pipe by the dump valve. Maybe a couple of gallons.

Does the GEO method work?

Yes it does work well. I started out putting drop in chemical packets in my old tt and developed odor issues. Switched to Geo method and no more issues.

You need more than a gallon of water in your black tank. If that is all you have been putting and then using the toilet you probably have a brown mountain of death right below your toilet.

So after you have camped on a weekend, do you fill the tanks to dump them? Do you put this mixture in every time?

After weekend camping fill black tank to 2/3 and then dump, flush, add 3 gallons or so of water and your choice of geo method or chemicals. You will forthwith geo method it is easier to get black tank to flush clear.

Over just a weekend I'll fill the black to 2/3 on the panel before dumping to help get a good purge. I don't worry much about how full the gray is before dumping, my only concern is enough gray to rinse the drain hose out.

I put about four gallons into the black tank to make sure I fill up the drain pipe and cover the floor some.

Contacted the Mfg with the question and got a reply very fast

Good morning John,

The only problem I see in what your doing is the starting amount of water. You need 3 - 5 gallons of starting water to properly start with, and only one Drop-In.

The more water to start the better results you will get. Water allows the urine, waste, and paper to stay below the surface of liquids in the tank therefore allowing the chemicals to properly treat them.

Try starting with more water and I think your problem will be solved.

If you have any additional questions please contact me directly and I will assist anyway I can.

Kindest regards,

Todd Vice
Walex Products Company

That is what my problem was. All is well in the world now.
