Toilet Drop Tube Length

2016 Wildwood X-lite 273QBXL with 34 Gallon Black Tank. From bottom of tank to bottom of drop tube is 2 inches, this does not seem like much for Poo and paper to get by, our 2nd trip we had some paper clog in the tube. We now understand to use a full bowl to flush #2 and RV TP, but 2 inches does not seem like enough space for it to get by, it also looks like down tube is glued to black tank is 6 inches long

pictures:
18 inches from flap to bottom of tank - 16 inches from flap to bottom of down tube - and one shows 6 inches for down tube.

What does every one else have? This does not seem right but since it is glued to black tank versus toilet or so it seems, it would be standard length for all

I am thinking rookie mistake as well and using to much RV TP and not enough water, I am interested in responses

I also plan on going to dealer on Saturday - currently have 1/3 full black tank with one of those drop ins - thanks in advance for the replies and i have some thick skin for the rookie comments

Looks just like mine. It seems either too much tp, not enough water or both. I've never had a clog/flush problem.

2" isn't much room, but it should be enough if you use plenty of water.

Those tanks are pretty thin at the shallow end, so if the fitting sticks into the tank a little you don't have much room left.

P.S. Don't worry about using RV toilet paper unless you just like it. We use the same stuff we use in the bricks and sticks, and it works just fine. The trick is plenty of water.

by my measurement the tube goes into tank 6" which i would think design is to help with sloshing around and back up to toilet, we are going to try full bowl of water with #2 flush to see if issue continues, and i am going to go measure some at camper dealer to see what they are

In my experience 2" is not enough. As soon as the water level gets up to that level the toilet will burp when you flush. Sometimes blowing water and whatever else is in the toilet out on the floor. imo some screwed up when they installed the toilet.

I am sorry. Let me correct myself. The toilet will not burp until the water level is up to the vent pipe level. That being said I still see no reason to put the tube from the toilet that close to the bottom of the tank. Looks to me it would make it a lot harder to clean the tank if you didn't have an outside flush hose connection. sorry if I caused any confusion.

Do you fill up the bowl with water before you go? That makes a big difference. I was having problems with the same thing. Come to find out, my DW wasn't paying attention during our walk through, when we were told about doing this. So, she was not adding water and everything was just plopping right at the bottom of the tube. Once she started filling the bowl with water beforehand, most of our problems went away.

Adding water before you flush and not dumping before the tank is full and you won't have any problems

Never measured ours and have no plans to but...... isn't your flap above floor level (ours is) and the floor thickness is ????? So my guess in the drop tube actually goes into the black tank 2-3" at most?????? The shallow end of the tank is not very deep.

The down tube is glued to the tank as is plumbing at home so you can remove the toilet for repair replacement. The only way you can get an accurate measurement is to pull the toilet out for the measurement that you are trying to get. They also use several makes and models of toilets in RVs

Never used RV toilet paper before never will.........

Thanks for the insight and no I do not have a backflush built in, i use the kind that connect to stinky slinky clear elbow, and come to think about it with the down tube down in the tank 6" maybe this is meant to keep the back spray from coming back up into the toilet and especially if someone decides to use it while i am backflushing, i am going to camper dealer this weekend and i will measure a few and see and report back

In the very last picture you can see the black tank top, then the yellow glue used for down tube, i can stick tape measure to bottom of tank and then bring up until tape measure end catches on end of down tube, that is how i am getting my measurement. also my tank is 7-8 inches thick at this end, i got under rig and very easy to measure. the 6 inches i speak about is only the black portion of the down tube not the white of toilet. I do appreciate your reply to my question the forum has been helpful

You can add a back flush to your tank easily if you want one. I like the added ones better than the factory installed ones my self.

I would ask a plumber if it is possible to cut 2" off the tube and also get the 2" cutoff pc out. Maybe even 3".

Cutting it off would be easy enough. Getting it out of the tank might be a challenge.

Went to camper dealer with Flash Light and Tape measure in hand, was going to measure 10 and go with best out of 10 percentage. Well the toilets are sealed up so i could not measure them bummer, i got to talking with and employee and he said this is the 2-3 complaint he has heard himself with this issue, he will tell service manager and maybe he will open a call with forest river.

We plan on camping at all star race at Charlotte we will try more water & less paper if that does not work i will buy an inside PVC pipe cutter and use a bit extension, getting the cut off piece out should not be a problem just insert a bent close hanger with the hook portion first into the hole before cutting and piece should fall right on hook, pull it straight up, i am kind of concerned if there will be burrs left from cutter wheel, i will have to try it out on something else first. Here is a picture of inside cutter

Try cutting it into 2 or 3 pieces instead of just one.. They might be easier to get out.. Especially if they just drop where cut.. To remove the burrs either a round file, which may need an extension to the handle (tape on a piece of tubing or pipe...
I'd try a mock up on the garage floor first to see how tricky it's going to be to cut it somewhat straight and burr free...

ok here is the outcome, bowl full of water, full bowl not 3/4 or 1/2 less TP equals perfect flush and no TP stacking in toilet drop tube

how about 2nd trip report back, same amount of water and little as possible TP equates a perfect flush with no TP stacking in down tube. Works perfect and no worries with water since full hook ups. Thanks again for all the tips and advice - case closed
