Toilet knife valve

Hello, I have a 2006 27' salem rb and need some help fixing the toilet.
The knife valve that slides back when you flush the toilet came off and is in the upper portion of the toilet(not in the tank below the floor). My wife can get the valve but we can't really get it back on.( my hands are way to big to fit, she was not excited) I looks like it just saps in. I don't think it's broken but there is not much to do from the top side. Any tricks to try before I pull the toilet out? Also, What will I need to have on hand if I have to take the whole tank out? Any special seals or anything. I am a contractor and have tons of experience in conventional plumbing but none in a RV's, if fact we have only had this camper for a couple of months.

Thanks

Ok more info. And pics. Thethord corp. Model 31683.
Does the top of the toilet snap off just below the seat?
It looks like it might, which would allow me
To not take the whole thing out.
Thoughts?

I have never repaired this before but around here we have some good rv shops that I would call to get their advice. I would even call Thedford technical support, they are usually very helpful.
I did pull our potty for a small leak an it wasn't to hard other than there isn't much room to work. After pulling ours there was a very large open cavity that would surly allow you to work on(different models will definitely be different).I wasn't happy with the design(large open cavity that collected...) and the wife wanted something a little nicer(porcelain). While I was in there I added a water hand wand.
good luck

I still have our old potty. I kept it to be sure we would be happy with the new one and it still sits in a shed(cleaned). Going to toss it.
I posted my project about two years ago and put pictures and all the model numbers in. if your interested you should be able to search my name and find it.
