I'm having the same issues. 2016 nitro xlr, I have had it a year and got it to prime 1 time. I just put a new pump on because I thought that was it. But nope it won't prime.

All the pumps are self priming, you can also run out of water and the pump will stay on but you will not damage it. You either have an air leak somewhere or your pump head is stuck or ripped. try to remove your screen filter that was shown above fill that container turn on the pump see if it draws water out of it, you have a leak somewhere between your FW tank and pump. Mine has a valve in between make sure that is open. You have to close mine to winterize. Just a thought all units are plumbed differently. IMO that is what it sounds like, Also last trip out had a similar problem I unscrewed the strainer at the pump and reinstalled it the pump started to work again, Fluke thing I guess. You also should have a Sur-Flo pump.

The heads can be replaced but I would also second taking it apart first. Like I posted before, mine was a grain of sand in the pump. This is what cause mine to keep running and not pump water since it also could not prime.

Unfortunately no one has mentioned this, if I missed it I'm sorry, when you winterize, if you don't run the pump after you open the low point drains, but before you blow out the lines, to make sure all the water is out of the pump lines and pump body. Water can remain there and can damage the diagram or pump plastic housing. Because there is a check valve before the pump the air used to blow out the lines does not go back thru the pump.
We had this happen on our service trailer, to one of our 7 gpm shur flow pumps a few years ago.
You can order a new front part of the pump, but it is much easier to just replace the entire unit.

I filled the holding tank up today while having pump on and hot water vented. It primed. I have a large hot water heater. I let the air out of sinks and now leaving pump on to see if it is going to loose prime.

The pump has been replaced. While that seems easy enough to do, the location made it anything but. However, I was able to get the job done without breaking anything, or drawing any blood.
Now the important part. I opened the cold bathroom sink faucet, turned on the pump, and water began to flow in less than 5 seconds. So, yes the problem was a failed diaphragm.
Thanks for all the help in trouble shooting the problem. I'll report back on whether or not the Mfg, will honor the 2 year warranty. My coachmen warranty expired last August.

When I arrived home from work Friday, there was a new pump on my doorstep. It's good to know the manufacturer honored their 2 year warranty. I'll keep it on hand for when the one I bought fails.
