Unique RV Digest-It
Does anyone use the Unique RV Digest-It as their tank treatment...instead of the Geo method or the formaldehyde/deodorizing chemicals?
After seeing it mentioned in several forums I bought a bottle and used it on our first trip this season. We did not have any odors but we were only there for 3 nights. We drained the tank and added 2 oz of the liquid and about 5 gallons of water, no flushing of tank. We use to do the Calgon, soap, and the 4 oz black tank liquid....did not have issues but the Digest-It seems easier and less trouble.
Not trying to create another debate over methods just hunting for thoughts and feedback on just using the single item Unique Digest-It and if anyone has tried it pros/cons?

A quick search here will reveal several excellent threads that discuss this at length. Many use the Geo-Method and some use a combination.
I use a modified geo-method (Liquid Calgon and laundry soap) every dump and use a 1 Quart 72 hour RV-Digest-It treatment every season followed by a long Turbo-Flush every end of season.
My tanks are like they were when delivered and, with the Horst probe upgrade (also here in the FAQ), the indicating system works perfectly every time.

After 2 trips consisting of 7 days in total the RV Digest It did not stop odors or fully digest toilet paper...IMHO no impact at all. We rinsed the tanks and will go back to our previous method of dish washing liquid and Calgon and black water treatment (can't recall name).
It will be saved until the last trip of the year to help dissolve remnants that did not get flushed when rinsing.

As stated by me before, there is a place in my cabinet for RV-digest-it.
As to day to day camping laundry soap and Calgon can't be beat.

Have you found the laundry soap works better than dish soap?

With no other additives? I didn't put any treatement in mine last weekend, just the softener and laundry detergent and it smelled pretty ripe by the end of the trip.

I like the laundry soap best but will use whatever is handy.
The laundry soap definitely works best in the gray tank due to its high detergent. It helps break up grease clumps from the kitchen much better than dish soap IMO.
My holding tanks seldom have odors.

I recently picked up a quart of RV Digest-it. The Camper is going to be setting for a few weeks until our next trip. The tanks were dumped and flushed yesterday. I did the Calgon and detergent to all 3 of them. I am thinking about filling them up (or almost filling them up) and adding the RV Digest-it and letting them sit until our next trip. Is this a good idea? This will be the first time I am using the RV Digest-it so how much should I add to each tank? The CG we are going to is only 30 miles away So I figure I can leave it in there until we arrive and do a dump as soon as we get there.

Warning:
Do not put it in your fresh water tank.
As a first treatment, I would put half in each tank (black and gray).
Can you dump and flush at your storage location?

I have used RV-Digest every since I met the man that developed it several years ago while wintering in Quartzsite, AZ.

I have 3 tanks Black, Grey and Galley so should I split it among the 3? Also should I fill the tanks?
As for dumping I store it on my property I live on 4.5 acres 90% wooded I can dump if I need to but, I figured a little bit of motion on the trip to the CG might be beneficial.

Split it among the three. RV-Digest-It is full of critters that eat tank crud.
Fill your tanks right to the top after you add the RDI and let it "simmer" for 72 hours; then flush out the tanks (Turboflush for the black tank and a hose fitting sewer back flush on the gray tanks).
Then before you leave on your trip, add 1 capful of Calgon water softener and 1 capful laundry detergent to each holding tank and about 6 gallons or so of water in each tank. Drive to the campground and flush as normal.

Thanks Herk
One more question. When I dumped at the CG on Sunday before I left I did the one cap of Calgon and Detergent in each tank should I drain those before doing the RV Digest-it treatment or will it be OK to just add to it?
