Using Showerhead Shutoff Valve

When dry camping, to save water we adjust the water temperature at the valves then shut off the shower head valve, get in, lather, rinse, repeat... each time the valve is reopened the water is really Hot. I heard opening the bypass valves a little bit at the water heater might help this. Anyone else have a suggestion? (5 gal suburban WH)

Mine is just the opposite. Water comes out cold for a second. I just turn the head away before I turn the valve back on. Hits the wall, not me.

Does your water fully shut of when you shut off the valve? It's supposed to trickle (leak) when shut off so avoid the hot water issue. What's happening is the hot water "pushes" the cold so when you turn it back on, the hot is taking up both lines for a bit so there's no cold to push out ... does that make sense?

Using Showerhead Shutoff Valve

Mine trickles, However when you turn it back on I get cold water first.
I do not have the normal stock shower head and have a normal household unit with no shut off.

I installed a shut off after the water mixing handles before the hose.

Mine seems to shut off completely. Came with the trailer.
My previous trailer I put an Oxygenics on it and added the shutoff valve to that. It came out hot when I opened it.
I would prefer to be frozen than scalded.

Ours comes out hot for a second or two. Just learned to point it away for a second or two. never worried too much about it.

Ours trickles when off also and we did learn to aim it away when turning back on. Sometimes I forget though and Woooo.. look out. Maybe a different shower head or inline gate valve would slow the delivery.

Our dealer left the bypasses at the water heater partially open and when I asked why he said for scalding?

I have found that even with the trickle valve the water temperature does not stay constant. I suspect whether you get hot or cold when turning the shower head back on would depend on how far the hot and cold faucets are opened. The one open more might allow more flow, thus feeding back into the opposite supply line. Just guessing.

Yikes. I just ordered the Oxygenic head. You saying there is no shut off on the handle. I thought that thing was promoted to save water.

I have been frustrated trying to control the scald freeze issue with the stock head
