Washer for Low Point Drain

My water pump began cycling recently and I discovered a drip from one of the low point drains. When I removed the caps it was apparent that the red one has a washer and the blue one doesn't. I'm no plumber so I'm just wondering it I need an exact replacement or can I use a regular flat washer?

I know some will suggest I add valves but a new washer will be a lot cheaper.

I have to change the caps that were installed on mine a couple times a year because if I dont tighten them with pliers they leak.I retighten them, and they leak again. So I get new ones that are OK for a month, and then the plier treatment is reqd to stop the drip. Its just two bit cheap crap.Someday I'll cut the lines and put some good quality ends on them, right now its easier just to keep a few caps in my tool box.

If you can not find the OEM type at your local hardware store then buy and use a couple of flat rubber washers.

I was able to pickup a couple of the exact same washers from a local Keystone dealer. They were nice enough to give them to me for free as I was already picking up some mouse deterrent.

I installed shut off valve's on mine and so far I haven't had any problems. I couldn't find the caps to close them off so I went to Home Depot and found the valve's that threaded on in place of the caps. A week later I found the caps in a drawer in the Motorhome. Since the valves work, I'll keep them.

I had the same issue. The washer is still on your end. You can see it in the picture.

Yes, the red drain pipe still had the washer intact but the blue one didn't have one. It wasn't in the cap either. That's how I clued in that it was missing. The washer from the red drain pipe is the one in my hand.

I replaced both of them with new ones assuming its only a matter of time before the red one goes bad and falls out, too. We had the TT out this past weekend and no leaks but we were on a FHU site so I didn't have the water pump on to see if it's cured the cycling. It's time to winterize now so I'll check it in the Spring.

The washers were free. Ball valves (and the fittings I'd need to be able to use them) aren't. And I don't have any tools to work with PEX pipe either. The washers were originals as far as I know so they lasted 5-6 years. For my situation, it's a no brainer to keep using the caps with free washers. Plus, my low point drains are immediately behind the driver's side wheels so they'd be susceptible to getting debris in the open side of the valve.

PVC ball valves are like $2 at Home Depot. No special tools necessary. A pair of pliers and about 30 seconds and you are done.

Shark Bites (generic name: slip on fittings) work like a charm. You don't really even need a valve, because the Shark Bites are easy to remove. They are around $7 each, but worth it.

Something like this?

https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.b...utoSuggest=pip

With the threaded ports I could just screw it on to the male threaded fitting on the drain tube.

Google Shark Bite Valve

Just cut the Pex pipe and slip it on.
