Water Filter

We just got back from W.Md. on our first trip of the year, everything worked fine and there were no issues with the camper.
I forgot to buy a new water filter for the camper(A122) from the local Camping World store, so I went to WalMart and purchased a Camco (blue) RV filter that hooks up to the fresh water hose. I left the interior filter housing empty of a filter and just used the Camco one. The water pressure was much better and I think I will just go this route from now on, it`s a lot easier to replace and less chance of a leak inside.

That's exactly what we do on our Sabre. You are using a water pressure regulator aren't you?

This post made me realize that I never re-installed a water filter at all for this trip!

Worst water pressure we've dealt with. I almost wonder if my Watts regulator got bumped/jostled to lower its pressure. My guess it's the park and it just has low water pressure.

Yup, I have used one on all of my campers. Replacing water lines on a camper is not fun.

I noticed a drip from my filter today. I need to go and get a few O-rings from my friendly FR dealer.

I am trying to become a first time A-Frame owner this week. So I am looking for all the little things a newbee needs to know. Where is the interior water filter on these models?

Speaking about water filters, do you notice FR mounts them low when there could be several inches more room above. Then, when you remove it, you have to tip it? I think i may mod that now!

Edit. 10 mins later, better than new. The bottom holes were in luan and the top ones were in solid wood. Moved the holes up and now the top screws are also in solid wood. And I can remove the filter without tipping.

Under the sink, right hand side, above the shelf and far enough back in that you'll have to get down to the door level to see it.

You only need the location once, to remove it... It restricts the water flow horribly. Either no filter, or an inline on the supply hose is what most of us do.

I find it restricts it no more than the pressure in my house. Maybe I am just use to horrible pressure. To me, having a quality filter is well worth it.

I'm sure each persons experience will vary. Maybe I had a bad filter. With it, water flow on my A126 was so low that filling a coffee pot (8 cup model, so pretty small) took more than a minute. Without, I can fill in less than half the time.

I just don't use one at all and bri g drinking water along, and only use tank or CG water for non consumption uses.

Maybe one day ill get a new filter cartridge and give it another shot.

I am in the process of getting ready to remove our internal filter. I think we'll gain a small amount of space as well as improved pressure. I am going to camping world today to look at external filters.

We've always used ours for safety sake as we don't always trust the water at the campsites.

I wish we could filter just the onboard tank with it. Although I sanitize the system regularly, I like the thought of the extra protection.

When using the water filter I had almost no water pressure at all. Removed the filter and had good water pressure. I removed the filter housing and put in a coupling to connect the two lines. We only use the water from the tank for dishes and such. We bring our own drinking water from home or in bottles.

I have never used the filter inside my filter container ...
i would like to put a bypass in .. to be able to screw on to the coupling .. and negate having that water in the cabin of the trailer ... and also the antifreeze that im about to push out in the next few days ..

if anyone has a mod/flee bay purchase ... that does this i would certainly be interested....im basically looking for disk shaped thingy .. that would take the place of the filter holder ....

Sometimes it goes without saying, but pressure preset regulators only reduce incoming pressure and do not increase it. Been to many campgrounds with low (and sometimes very low) water pressure.

If the pressure is really bad, I just use it to fill my freshwater tank and run my pump. This has happened at more than one campground.

Another thing I do is fill my fresh tank when we will be camping for a while (even with hookups). This precaution paid off in spades at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL recently when the City of Tampa Water Works had a polluted water problem. They blew the siren on base and used the "Giant Voice" system to alert everyone that the water was compromised and to boil all the water coming out of the spigots. We just shut ours off and used the on board water until the emergency had passed.

We use it up a few days before we depart.

I removed our filter and installed a 2 gallon pressure tank. LOVE the mod.
