Water Heater

I am new to this trailer and didn't receive the owners manual. We are trying to figure out how to turn the water heater down when plugged in to 110. It's a 2004 Wildwood trailer. Thanks for the help.

If you mean to lower the temperature then you are out of luck. The water heaters come with a fixed thermostat. You may be able to find a thermostat at a lower temperature but then the water would always be cooler.

Almost all of your appliance manuals can be found online at the manufacturer's web sites.
All you'll need is the model number of the appliances.

If you have a by-pass winterizing valve on your water heater, you can open it slightly to mix some cold water with hot water to bring temperature down......

You'll definitely need your model number for other purposes. Look on the side of the trailer near the entry door. There should be a decal, etc., with the model number.

I think what was implied was a model number for the water heater.

Most water heaters come with 130° dual thermostats, one for 110v and one for propane. I haven't seen a 140° thermostat furnished standard in the 40+ yrs I've owned trailers. I changed both in my 5er from 130° to 140° to have more hot water available.

Why not just open the cold side of the faucet more when running water?

Usually it's because people don't want their children to get scald/burn from excessive hot water......

That's what I was told many, many years ago and what we taught our 2 boys. We had an electric water heater when we were growing up and my mom insisted it be set to 145°, so it didn't take much to convince us to turn the cold on first.

I have an Atwood GE16EXT water heater and I have a 'tempering valve' behind it. This allows cold water to be mixed with the hot at the water heater. You can then adjust it to give whatever temperature hot water you want. FWIW on my particular water heater it holds 10 gallons of water but they rate it as a 16 gallon as I believe the thermostat is set at 140 and by mixing with the cold it extends the supply. Apparently the previous owner had the tempering valve go bad and just took it out of the system. Hot water would dang near scald you and especially in the shower just a small nudge of the faucet would change from ice cold to scalding hot. I used a Watt tempering valve as a replacement. The stock Atwood tempering valve which is apparently prone to failure, is about $150. I found my Watt tempering valve on ebay for $29.

Atwood xt

It stores water at 160 and mixes to 130. I was a little nervous about the life of a tank at that temp. How is yours and hows it working?
