Water Heater electric switch

In my Roo, I have the propane and\or electric water heater. On the switch, there is a red light that I would assume means that I am using electric on the water heater. I see this light come on for a short period of time when first turning on the switch, but then goes out whether the electric switch is on or off. Can anyone tell me what the light does? I was hoping it would tell me that the switch is on. I don't want to empty the water heater some day and leave it on without knowing.

That is a fault light usually. As the Direct Spark Ignitor (DSI) is making the sparks to light the propane, this light will come on. Once the propane ignites, the light goes off. If the light stays on, then that tells you the propane failed to ignite and you have a problem. After I think 3 failed attempts to light the propane, then the light will stay on constantly and the DSI will quit trying to ignite the propane.

Sounds like yours is working properly.

If you have the Suburban brand water heater, this FAQ may help...including how to turn on your electric heating element (which you know but others reading may not)

DSI, That's what it says. Thanks for filling me in. I knew the electric heating element worked, as I was getting hot water without propane, I was hoping it was some indication that the electric switch was on as a reminder. Yes. it seems mine is working as expected then

You can always add an electric switch with a red light.....I did it to mine so I never have to turn that little black one on or off at the water heater.
