water heater in Cherokee wont get hot

My water heater wont get hot, it just started last trip. Burner is working fine. We were hooked up to full service including city water, 30 amp power and sewer.

Any ideas?

Did someone by chance turn one of the valves?

More details please, as in it won't get hot using propane? it won't get hot using electric heating element?

Is it a tank type or tankless heater.

Is this the first trip of the season? Was it winterized?

The heater is a tank type and has been working fine on propane all season. 3 prior trips. As far as I l know it only runs on propane.

I checked all the valves first thing and they all are lined correctly.

A friend of mine mentioned there might be a problem with the sensor on the tank.

If the burner is running then the heater is working. Does it cycle off?

Hi Todd, yes it does. I get a quick shot if hot water then lukewarm.

Winterizing valves are set wrong. You are bypassing the heater so make sure the center valve is closed as in running 90 degrees to the pipe. Also check your outside shower valves if you have one and make sure they are off and that the button on the sprayer is not turned off instead.

You might check model # and post here as Cherokee usually has propane/electric WH. Check the over temp safety. There should be one or two nickle sized black rubber circular areas in the mid left of the outside portion of the water heater. The square black area in attached photo. Push on them/it. If it clicks, it was tripped then try again. When you turn on the WH can you hear it clicking when outside near the access panel? If so does it fire up? If you recently ran out of propane or it tried to start with the propane off, it may have gone into safe mode after several tries. Remove the 12V fuse for the WH control circuit wait 10 seconds and reinstall. Then try again.

If you have an outside shower be sure both hot and cold are in the off position.
