Water heater not keeping water hot

My 6 gallon water heater does not keep the water hot. the pilot is working, when I increase the temperature on the thermostat it fires up and heats up the water. After that it will not fire up again. Could it be a faulty thermostat?

Very possible, call suburban with a choice of fixed temp settings. About 25 dollars.

Thanks, my thermostat settings are warm, hot and hotter and it is a upside down triangular piece of plastic with holes in it where a pin goes in the hole for each temperature setting.

Do you have your winterized bypass valve open?
It is the valve between the cold water in and the hot out.
This can make the water cooler.
Here is a basic picture of what you should be seeing.
If the handle is in line with the hole it is open.
If the handle is cross the line it is closed.

Your valves should be like the top picture for normal use.

If you have an outside shower make sure both hot and cold tabs are closed otherwise hot and cold water are being mixed.

Ahaaaaa, you solved my problem. I have been shutting the valve when I winterized it and opened the valve when I opened up my trailer.
The wife will be happy! Thanks
