Water Heater On/Off Switch
Hi all!
In poking around our new Wildcat Maxx TT, there is a switch on the main panel that seems to switch the water heater from propane to electric. Is there a separate switch that will shut the water heater off when not needed, or do I just shut off the propane supply?
I appreciate any comments and feedback!

I'm not familiar with that particular trailer, but most of the panels I've come across only have a switch for propane...some have an electric switch also. Haven't seen one with a switch from one to another. How is the switch labeled?

Are you sure that switch does that?
Most FR products have Suburban WHs, which have the electric switch outside, on the WH itself.
The inside switch is propane only.
Post a pic of it or the brand and model number of the WH.

If you do indeed have a Suburban water heater (not the tankless variety), then this FAQ may help out in understanding the switch(es).
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ore-36197.html
If you only have one water heater switch inside (Suburban model SW?DE), then it usually operates ONLY the propane/DSI.
If you have TWO water heater switches inside (Suburban model SW?DEL), then one is for the propane/DSI and the other is for the electric heating element.
Back to the RV's with only ONE inside switch (SW?DE), you may find a secondary switch outside on the face of the water heater that ONLY controls the electric heating element.
It's all explained in the link above, if this is the water heater you have

Now I wish I had looked to see what brand WH was in the 2017 models I was looking at a few weeks ago. I know the panel in those had gas and electric switches on it.

Next time you have a 20 mins or so, open all the covers access doors etc and record the manufacturer, model and serial number on all your appliances WH, Fridge, AC, water pump etc. Keep a copy in the RV and one at home. They are invaluable when you need parts or advise. A build sheet is provided to the dealer by FR on every unit with that info, but unless you ask, the dealer usually does not pass it along.

My 2015 Sabre has the inside propane switch and the electric switch outside on the water heater. My question is that I have turned the electric switch on and then forget about it. It is always on. Any problem doing this?

There shouldn't be a problem as long as:
1) there is water in the WH or else you'll fry your heating element
2) you are plugged into shore power or else you'll drain your battery pretty quickly.

I usually do. I'm one of those people that reads all the component manuals as soon as I get them and then play with everything so I know where it is and how to work it BEFORE I take it anywhere. Helps out if something breaks while using it too. The only reason I don't know what's in our next one is I don't have it yet. I looked at one almost like it on the lot before ordering, but I didn't think to look at it that closely.

My current setup is the same. What I started doing is using the breaker as on/off for the electric water and just leaving the outside switch on. Since I'm the only one throwing breakers, it's not an issue.

My 2015 Wildcat Maxx has a switch for lighting the propane on the main switch panel inside the trailer. There is a small and well hidden switch behind the hot water heater cover outside the trailer.

If the battery drains pretty quickly it won't be from an AC 120volt water heater heating element.

If you aren't hooked up to shore water or don't run your hot water once in a while, your heater will cause the water to evaporate and you heater will burn up.

Thank you! I was poking around the online manual and found more information also.
I certainly appreciate all of the responses!

We have two one inside for propane and the one outside, which I turn on when I get to a location and then turn off before I leave.
