Water heater problem....

We like to use the water heater on gas and we turn it on a bit before we need it and otherwise leave it off. This weekend we turned it on and it wouldn't lite but that isn't unusual so DH went out and cleaned the tube and it lit. The second time we went to lite it, it did nothing. I flipped the switch and the light didn't come on and igniter didn't click. We tried it a few times and finally had to run it on elec. Anyone have any ideas except that the igniter may have quit? It is under warrenty so no issue there except we don't have time to get it there real soon and are going back out camping and then on vacation. Thanks for any help.
