Update - I am giving up; waiting on the mobile tech guy to get here. I called the dealer, sent them a pic, etc. They think it might be one of the bypass valves, but cannot say for certain... Will let you all know how it turns out.

Thanks for all the info, links, etc. I did learn a lot from all of this!

Any updates here? I am having the same issue. I need to go check the bypass valve on mine.

From your picture, I am not understanding why you would have that white line without a valve? Wouldn't that eliminate you having hot water due to cold water mixing in with the hot water from the tank?
