Water Heater Question

Hey guys,

We have a Sierra 35 LOFTwith a gas/electric water heater. A while back, the electric part of the heater stopped working. Thinking it was a burned-out element, I replaced that. The old element did not look too bad but replaced it anyway. Still no electric hot water. All switches seem to be in the correct position and breaker is not tripped. Reset buttons are not sticking out.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jake

Are you testing with a meter to see if you have current? Work your way back to the breaker. I assume you checked the switch in the outside of the heater.

OK, no power at heating element. Checked for switch on and breaker not tripped. I assume power comes from breaker panel but I'm not comfortable messing with breaker. How do you cheack to see if breaker is good?

Thanks,

Jake

One way to test the breaker would be to kill the power to your rig and then switch the wires on two like sized breakers. If the heater works then and the other circuit is dead the fault is apparent.

Or if you can test the wire at the breaker with your meter. Red probe to screw on breaker and other probe to buds bar with all the white wires.

I have a circuit tester that signals when a wire is hot. If you have one checking along the route of the wire might lead you to a fault. Maybe the switch outside is bad.

Somewhere, near the back of the water heater, there is a receptacle that the water heater plugs into. Find it and plug in a lamp, nightlight or whatever.
