Water heater sediment concerns

We have a 2012 Sunseeker 2250 and love it. We do not use the hot water often but have not shutoff the water supply. Lately we have notice bad sediment getting into our whole system even the toilet. We have remove the toilet three times now to unclog the screen. I have had to clean out all the screens and even took a water hose to the water heater due to the large amount of sediment stuck in the bottom. What causes this and how do we stop it? We have even changed the rod each year. Help is appreciated!

I'm not sure how/why you can use a rig a lot and not use/need hot water.

That being said, you source for water is apparently very dirty/cloudy. I would suggest you purchase an inline water filter............Camping World stores have a variety. Also, check your on-board water filter for if/when you use on-board water for dry camping/boondocking. Even a small screw on in line filter on the end of your water hose should be looked at and/or replaced. Changing the anode is only required when the component deteriorates due to bad water sources.

You sure it's sediment and not construction debris?
If you have sediment in your wh there's no way to get it to the toilet.

If there is truly sediment in the wh you need to flush it.

do you have a good water filter?

The (Hot) side of your system should NOT feed into your (Cold) side of your (Water Closet). Your water system after being used for a short time should purge any (Factory assembly debris) downstream. Did you place a Element Cartridge in your Filter? Youroo!!

We have city water that we fill up with every weekend. We camp at race tracks that do not have hook ups like camp grounds. We take showers at the track instead of in the camper so I rarely use the hot water. When we closed the supply to the water heater the pump did not sound right like our water flows through the heater as a supply path even to the cold. Strange I know. We do not have a filter set up on the rig and the sediment was some of the rod pieces and white sandy like stuff. I say calcium but hubby doesn't agree.

You Definitely need a filter to prolong you water system life.

Filter should be right near the water pump.

Would an external on the hose at time of fillup be a good idea? Limited space issues.

It cannot hurt.
But best to have an on board filter before the pump.
Most units after 2000 came with filter and housing from the factory unless it was removed by a previous owner.

Its the old(We get a little Hot/warm water)then it turns Cold trick! Who does the Winterizing on your SunSeeker? Youroo!!

We do it ourselves. Air the system out then antifreeze the tanks

What is the (Orientation) of your 3 W/H bypass valves? Youroo!!

Two hoses going to and from heater need to be open. Hose going between the two needs to be closed. But...if you don't use the water heater (or are winterizing, do the reverse. That way you can leave the tank empty. Also, do you notice the same rust or sediment problem in your house?

Thank you I will fix the hoses. The house we do not notice this type of sediment build up in any of the faucets or traps

We bought this little wand type nozzle at camping world earlyier in the year, and used it to clean out the water heater. I couldnt beleive how much stuff came out, so I just kept moving it around and rinsed till it went clear. This was a used unit and never knew the mantaince that had been done prior. This nozzle will be going in the new trailer, and will probably use it at the end of the year when I drain for the winter.

Is it like the turbo wand? I use that for the black tank every time we dump to keep it clean. I am headed to tom raper's Rv parts store tomorrow to get a new rod.
