Water line question

When I fill my fresh water tank if I over fill it then it will fill the black tank. when I looked under it there is a water line that runs from the fresh tank to the black tank. what is the purpose of this water line?

adding what year, make, and model of your RV would be a great help along with pics. Some have been mistaken on what they see.

there should be a fresh water overflow hose that will drain to the ground. there should be a fresh water drain that will drain the fresh water tank.

but noway should there be a connection from the fresh water tank to either the black or gray tanks. that would be a path to have waste water enter the fresh water tank. absolutely not!

If what you say is true....that is a HUGE MISTAKE !!! There should be no connection between the two. What fitting are you using to fill the FW tank ? the only other line going to Black Tank is the "Black Tank Flush Line" if you hooked to that...thinking you're filling FW tank, you will fill up the Black Tank.

What you think is the fresh water fill fitting is actually the black tank flush fitting.

There was a camper at a Rally a few years ago that made a similar mistake and connected the campground's water supply to the black tank flush and there was black water everywhere inside and outside the camper.

Totally destroyed it as there was no way to get the smell out.

Please post some photos of the connection port(s) you are using and your make/model.

What you are describing is not how things work.

It sounds as if you either don't understand something or there is something plumbed incorrectly.

If this is something that is really happening, (and not a mistake of some sort) we'd all like to learn why.

On that unit the black tank flush is beside the outside shower and the Fresh water fill/City water connection is just below the outside shower.

It will be very interesting to find out what's going on here. It could be mis-plumbed a few ways to create the scenario the OP stated.
