Water pump kicking on?

We have looked and looked for any sign of a leak, so far can't find anything. That is my first thought, we must have a leak! But then hubby is wondering if many it isn't just the nature of the beast. What is happening is that our pump will kick on, just for a split second, every so often. I say leak that we have not found yet. Your ideas?????

It might just be a little water leaking past a check valve.

IMHO this is a "fairly" normal occurance. It wouldn't take much of a water or air leak to eventually cause the pressure to drop enough to activate the demand pump. In our previous '06 Rockwood 2604 we got into the habit of turning off the pump overnight so that it couldn't turn on while we were sleeping.

mine does the same thing, on for a second or two. like mtnguy said could be the check valve, could also be some debris in the check valve and it just needs to be cleaned. I called the factory on this and they are sending me a new pump to make sure that is the problem, if not I will need to bring it in so they can take a look at it to make sure there are no leaks. I checked for leaks during the last trip and found none.

I should have also added that a slow leaking check valve would let off enough pressure back into the fresh water tank to trigger the pump for a second or two. The inlet check valve is internal to the pump and replacing the pump is the only fix.

depending on the pump model you can take it apart and clean the check valve or even just replace the check valve. check out your pump manufacturers website. I have a Shurflo pump.

I've also been experiencing this lately and mine is the result of the valve in the city water connection failing (this is my second one - first one failed completely and shot water like a fountain!). The pump would cycle for a second every 15 mintues or so. Looked all over for other leaks and then went out and popped the cap and noticed a light dribble from the connection. Instead of replacing the whole thing this time I think I'm going to put a manual bypass valve in the line that I can reach in activate if I am going to hook to city water. Most of my camping is at areas that don't have water hookups so wouldn't be that often and saves pulling the city water connection again.

ours did this brand new on the dealers lot. quickly found out that the low point drain cap on the camper was not on right. something about an o ring was left out or wasnt tight not sure. We looked forever to try and find the leak and finally noticed the little damp area on the gravel. Just keep in mind the leak doesnt have to be inside.

My water pump started cycling in June. I was under the trailer & saw water dripping @ the rear. Crawled out from under it & had a look. Turns out the outside shower fixture wasn't turned off. Not sure if it was the hot or cold. Closed them up & the drip (& cycling stopped).

The shower had never been used, so 1 of them may have vibrated open slightly.
