Water Pur CCI-10CLW12 bypass
Has ayone made a bypass to take the filter housing out of the line for winterizing. I know I hate the thought of winteriz.ing, but I want to be ready and I don't want to leave the housing inplace after the filter is removed.

I just fill my filter canister with marbles. They take up all the excess space and save on anti-freeze.

After our burst this spring due to freezing DH talked to our dealer and they told him a way to bypass...sorry I don't remember. He was going to try it this weekend and if it works I will post what he did.

I use a water heater bypass kit on mine. The kit had an 8" hose which was a little tight. Had I known at the time there was a 12" hose I would have used that one. Just a flip of the lever either sends water through or around the filter.

Mine was full of antifreeze last winter. It froze, and broke all to heck!
If you do winterize with antifreeze....I suggest you fill your system, bleed the pressure off and dump that canister out...so there's room for expansion.
My cansiter was mounted under the bathroom sink. I took it out, and joined the two lines together. Now, I have an outdoor mounted cansiter which is easy to reach, and easy to winterize...just dump it out and put it away!

Mine is in the front crawl thru storage.
I did exactly the same thing--
Removed the filter.
Connected the lines.
Now us a whole house filter on my hose when I'm filling
the tank or on city water hookup.
If they weren't so cheap at Forest River, they'd put in
a bypass on the original filter setup!

I have a 21RS Roo with a built in Water Pur system. I'd be interested in knowing if there is a bypass I need to purchase or just winterize the RV with the filter housing attatched and letting it fill with Antifreeze and then when I'm done winterizing the pipestake the canister off and empty the antifreeze back in the jug. Will this option work too?

This option will work just fine. You may get some dilution of the antifreeze when it displaces the water in the lines, however. May not be full strength when you save it. DEFINATELY....EMPTY out the canister and reinstall. If some freezing does occur...it has a place to expand to. (I learned the hard way)

I removed my water purifier for this very reason, I went to Home depot and for $30,(refill fiters are $7) purchased a GE water filter which had a 3 position lever, Thru, Bypass and Stop all water. This was a direct swap out for the factory installed filter. I blow out all the water lines first and then simply put the lever in bypass when winterizing and remove the clear housing with the filter and proceed to winterize with a tee which I also installed that sucks the anti-freeze (with the pump providing the suction) out of the bottle and complete winterization takes about 10 min.

Will try and take some pictures of the many mods I've done, but it will have to be in mid-Sept. as we are leaving tomorrow morning for a 2 week trip.

A lot of readers voiced the opinion that this filter is in the wrong place and I agree. I purchased a 6 inch galvanized nipple, used some teflon tape and put it in place of the filter head which is so hard to get at under the sink. I then used a couple of adapters and now use the same filter outside connected to the main water inlet.

You may want to change that 6" galvanized nipple to (2) 3/4 CPVC Male adapters with a short piece of pipe between them. Galvanized pipe will rust over time where plastic CPVC will not. I work in the HVAC field and have seen many water heaters tied in with galvanized pipe and it's corroded with rust inside the pipe. Same goes for galvanized trash cans. Must importantly that nipple is after the filter now so there's nothing to keep the rust out of your drinking water.

This is an awesome solution for those who have not moved their filter to an easier accessable location. Why didn't I think of that??

Have finally gotten around to posting pictures of some of the Mods I've done, Including the water filter with the by-pass. These pictures can be found under the Mods thread.

Sorry,
I dont get the antifreeze thing. This will be my first winter with an RV.
If I dump the water out of the holder and open the faucets, would that not work just as well? It allows for expansion, the same as a driping faucet on a house.
Do I need to drain the hot water tank as well, or is leaving the faucets open good enough?
