Water Regulator

I have a fix water regulator I bought 8 years ago for camping and still using it. Question? should I replace it as a general rule due to age, as far as I can tell there is no signs of any problems yet.

As long as it's working reliably I wouldn't consider replacing it. Good quality regulators are designed to last many years. A good one should outlast you and I.

I agree with Bama Rambler, if your regulator is working OK I wouldn't replace it.

That being said, I bought a Watts model H560 adjustable regulator this summer. I have it set for 45PSI with the hot and cold spigots turned on full at the outside shower.

It has much more flow than the old fixed regulator I had.

I found it on e-bay for about $20.00.

I also bought an H560 from Ebay and it's a considerable improvement over the cheap one I had been using.

Another question? If a water regulator fails, will it fail in an non operational mode which might be called a fail safe mode or will it open all the way as if there was no restriction? I think it would fail closed because of the safety issue but, I don't know for sure.

I've seen them fail both directions but they rarely fail high. Most times the spring fails and the unit completely shuts off the flow. In critical applications you always use two stage regulators and a pressure relief valve downstream.
