Water Softener Experience?

We're moving to an area with hard water, and we plan to be there for some time (full timers).
We'd like to add a water softener to the RV. There are quite a few to pick from, but all that we can find for RV use seem to be manual regeneration models. For a little more $ we can pick up a small household model with automatic regeneration.
Does anyone have any experience with using a household model on their coach? Will there be a significant or noticeable water pressure/flow drop? Will the manual systems have the same issues of pressure and flow?
Thanks in advance for any information.
