Used one for a year, problem with ours was it really needs to be connected between the water filter and the trailer. Due to the location of our water filter we had to connect between tap and filter. This resulted in having to regenerate about every 10 days. Used a lot of salt....Best

Hoping for a little more feedback on this topic. I had a knowledgeable RVfilter/softener guy, but he appears to have sold his business...

What is the difference in the regeneration process between models?

If I can tie it in after the filter system in the basement, can I just leave it in there all the time? Somewhat hard mounted?

Any difference in pressure drop or flow?

And, just straight table salt? How much?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I run a cameo disposable filter in advance of my softner, I have many I bout for $3 each so I am covered. I then run into my trailer. I always use the softener to fill the tank no matter the source. I regenerate mine after about 4 tanks fills or after a week at a rally running more water than normal. I use a box of table salt, 89 cents at Walmart,

Is there a good source with customer service, or just pick one off amazon and call it a day?

How does the generation process work? Is it simply dumping salt in or is there more to it?

Open the top, dump salt in and flush using a pressure reduced fitting, mine came with a Tee and little hole in a plug on one side. I saw one model where you removed the filter attached and put salt in the canister and attach a pipe to the centre to draw salt off the bottom, seems more complicated.

Rallies like Goshen often have a vendor will a deal, we bought ours there, still using it 6 years later.

Guess you could keep it in basement but you might have to remove it to do regen. depending on basement size. You have to remove top to add salt and connect flush hose to drain.

Did not notice any pressure or flow difference.

Used regular salt from the grocery store, used two containers per regen. (think they are 2 pounds each, round paper container). Total cost was about $1.50 per regen. using Walmart brand.

Regenerated about every 7-10 days depending on water use. Took about 30 - 45 minutes to regenerate. This is why we stopped using ours, to much labor. Did like the results, just didn't last long.

From what I've read all RV size systems have to be manually regenerated and last about the same between regens.

I ordered mine from the manufacturer, support was not that good. Systems are not that complex. Put salt in wait 30 minutes, flush for 30 minutes. Use test strips to see level. Repeat when hardness level dictates. Best

Soft water is your water heater’s worst enemy.
