Only answered what you do, not what the OP asked. Still can't understand how he gets hot water with the anode laying in the compartment.
Why put it in during the winter and take it out during camping season? Sounds kinda backwards to me.

Do you do anything to protect the threads (like Glenn brought up the bronze stuff)? I literally have no idea about this stuff and wouldn't have known to do so if it wasn't said outloud.

I know my process on dealing with my anode rod and I'm sticking to it... but thanks to all for entertainment on a slowish day.

Clearly you're wrong and I'm going to take every opportunity to convince you my way is better.

That would explain why my FW tank empty's so fast.
I typically leave it out when not camping to avoid any mildew or moldy smell. Closed tank with any left over water to me seems like a problem. Cant close the cover with the safety valve open....Now might rethink my whole outlook on life and WH anode installation!

This forum is better than Saturday Night Live. I drain the WH when I winterize and reinstall the anode. I put some Gorilla glue on the threads. While it leaks a little bit, the anode sure stays in place good and tight.....................................just kiddin.

But you're weird anyway. Tapered pipe threads need either pipe dope or tape. Metal to metal contact is how the threads work as opposed to slip fit copper tubing.

Do you empty your hot water tank in the house when you're not going to use it for a few days? Why would the one in the trailer be any different. I get it if you won't use the trailer for a few weeks. I will flush mine once about mid season, bu to empty it after every trip seems like overkill to me.
