What is this thing?

It's in the bath sink drain line. With the pics I can now tell it's directional.
But I have no idea what it is or what it's for.
Anyone know what it is? Thanks.

to me it looks like a back flow preventer/check valve similar to this....

Homewerks Worldwide 1-1/2 in. PVC Sch. 40 FPT x FPT IPS In-Line Check Valve-VCKP40B7B - The Home Depot

very popular mod item in the small fiberglass trailer world, in a Casita it replaces the shower p-trap which is underneath and exposed to the elements,....... one less area to worry about freezing, ......plus they have a valve to close to prevent gray water splashback when traveling, the design of this valve also prevents that from happening...,....I've been told that Casita has started installing it at the factory now...............

Thanks TURBS!
Didn't know such a thing existed.
There isn't a p-trap under the sink, so I assumed they had buried it in the cabinet somewhere. I can vouch that it works, we've never had any smell from the drains.

I would love to know what's inside this thing. My first reaction is that it could get clogged up with hair or slime, making it ineffective.

Anyone know how it works inside?

There are a couple of informative videos on youtube. Supposed to not clog even with a single hair.

Cool. I learned something new, like most days on here. Thank you.

Point. It usually helps us if you post year make and model of your unit.
