Where to buy filter?
I've read a lot of posts about replacing the filter and about removing it and using an external filter. My question is much more elementary: This is my first spring and first time needing to buy a replacement filter, so where do I find the filter replacement? Online? Store? Local Camping World didn't know anything about it. I may remove it later, but going on a trip in a couple of weeks so, short term, I just need to put in a fresh filter. Thanks!

what filter? what model rv? if it is the forest river proprietary fr1 / kw1 I found the best source to be any online vendor. many rv stores do not carry it. I tried to get one from a forest river dealer once and even they did not stock it. it would take two weeks for them to get one. I ordered online and had it in couple of days at less cost than the dealer.

I guess charcoal made from coconut husks is expensive, bshort. I'll get one for this year and plan to remove it when I winterize this fall.
Thanks for your help.

Ya frightened me. Went to Wally World today looking for that filter. Of course, no luck. But the 1st place I looked online, it was $30 & free shipping.

one thing I should have mentioned. they also make a wrench to remove and reinstall the clear plastic filter housing. I think it was $8.00. it makes removing the housing very easy. I know there have been many posts about difficulty in removing the housing but I have had no problems when using the wrench.

Neither of the posts I saw from you mentioned who "they" are. I'm interested in the wrench. Please post supplier's name.
Thanks

Yes, and it is much easier with the pressure off of the system. Turn off the source and open the faucet until all pressure is released.

i found it online at water pur. $5.00 plus $2.75 shipping. make sure you get the one for the kw1 / fr1 as they have others for sale also. this really does make opening the canister easier.

Camping World does have them, go to the service department not the retail store side. Right around $40, replace ours every spring.

I found that removing the water filter plastic jar, is to put block wood unter it and pry up gently, this unlocks the teeth in the upper part, then use the wrench to remove the plastic jar with filter.

When we bought our camper I replaced our water filter.
I went to Home Depot and got a whole house water filter with a shut off and bypass.
The water filter that came with the camper made the water pressure really low when working from the pump. I know that it doesn't filter when in bypass but I now use the old filter from the camper with the hose when filling up the water tank.
Sometimes when I hook up in a campground that the water is not really that good I will hook up both filters. I made a stand for the one outside the camper and use the one that is in the camper. Sometimes I'm glad that I do. I can tell from the filter that both of them were stained and have done their job.
