Winterizing

I did not have much luck finding detailed instructions for winterizing my TT, the only information I found was to blow out the lines with air, has anyone not blown out their lines with compressed air? Wondering if removing the water filter, opening the drains, then adding AF so the pump draws through system, is there an adapter kit that can be purchased? Any help would be appreciated.

Yup, both ways work fine. Remove house filter if applicable, Bypass and Drain water heater and low point lines, tanks etc. Then pump in rv antifreeze and run thru all faucets, toilets, outside showers, etc. Add a little antifreeze to drain traps and you should be good to go.

That's correct..you don't have to blow out the lines...the goal is to not having ANY water in places where it can freeze, expand, and break stuff. (Many just do both because we really don't want to discover freeze problems in the Spring!)

I, originally, only wanted to blow out the lines because i didn't want to mess with the strange red stuff....but now I'm thankful that I use the red stuff...it protects to -50 and really isn't all that hard to rinse out in the Spring.

Winterizing really isn't difficult and there's a ton of Youtube videos that walk through many ways of doing it. (Some better than others...I've learned a lot from these channels "Love Your RV" "RV Education 101" and "RV Travel")

Yes... Blowing out the lines works great for people like us where the temps get below 32 for like three days all winter. We camp mostly thru "winter" and just blow out the lines when done that weekend just in case the temps drop before we get out again.

Don't forget to leave a couple inches on pink stuff in the toilet to keep the rubber seal from drying out.

The only thing that hasn't been talked about is the water heater make sure and change the bypass valves so the pink antifreeze doesn't get in the water heater and remove the anode so it doesn't rust in place. Go to hardware and get a plastic plug to put in where the anode was so threads don't rust. You don't want antifreeze in the water heater I was told it would damage the water heater.

The pink stuff will not damage the water heater if removed immediately. Not sure about leaving it in all winter tho. The anode rod \ heater drain nut size on mine is 1 and 1/16".

1-1/16 inch for the anode.
The plastic plug for Atwood's is 7/8 or 15/16 inch.

Thanks everyone, one last question, I saw a YouTube video where you get a fitting and hose for the pump to put in the gallons of antifreeze, is this a dealer item?

Are you sure your trailer doesn't already have winterizing kit installed? Many do...it will be right next to your water pump if you do, unless your trailer is equipped with an outside antifreeze hook up.

For the input for the winterization inlet, pick up a hose, clamp, and adapter at Home Depot. Click image for larger version
