I winterized yesterday and left my canister in. Its full of pink fluid. I almost took it off but it seems there is no way of doing it without making a huge mess. I didn't see any way to drain it before removal.

I cut an RV anti-freeze jug in half, as a cup of sorts & put it under the filter housing.
There's not much clearance underneath, so this "cup" kind of fits around the plastic housing.
When I unscrewed the filter housing, I just let it drop into this jug/cup and carefully manuevered it out along with the filter housing.
The spillage stayed in the jug/cup.

Although it not easy, I have enough room under & around my filter housing to do this.

Forgot something.

I was concerned about some folk's issues with cracked filter housings.
So after emptying it out, as I described above, I didn't re-install the housing.

I washed it (some sediment & film were present inside the housing) and set it aside - I'll put it back on in the spring.

JeBa,
Thats a great idea. I should have enough room to do that too. Next time I go down to the camer I will try that. I saved the empty jugs.
