12 VDC TV Receptacle for cpap?

Hi All

I sleep with a cpap that will run on 12VDC, I have a adapter cord that will plug into a 12VDC lighter receptacle. Does anyone know if you can use the 12VDC receptacle that is for the TV to run other stuff? The cpap only needs 5amp and the TV receptacle is good for 8amp.

Thanks

So it sounds like the receptacle max rating is 8 amps, the cpap draws 5 amps, you're good to go!

I assume that 5 amps is running a heated humidifier. If you cut that off, or at least down, the cpap machile itself won't draw nearly 5 amps.

If you have a ResMed Mirage S8, it won't work, it will blow a fuse in the S8. The center of the 12v cord that fits in the S8 is NEGATIVE and cigarette lighters are wired for the center to be POSITIVE. Tried it twice and had to send the S8 back to the factory both times to be repaired before I found out what was causing the failures. 1st time was $150, 2nd time was free because it was within 30 days. Big problem is the 4-5 week wait for repairs.

Some way, you need to see if it is wired the same as the S8, and if it is, reverse the way the 12v socket is wired. I would also mark the 12v outlet as being wired different. This is just a sneaky way for Respironics to force you to buy their power source.

My Respironics is 12v + in the center.
