12 Volt DC Circuit Breaker with Manual Reset gone bad

Has anyone seen the 12 Volt DC Circuit Breaker with Manual Reset go bad?
I have pressed the button but I feel like it's not resetting and I still have no 12V to my 2005
Sierra Sport.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks
Brian

Absolutely. Also have seen auto-reset fuses go bad. Just replaced two on my fiver. They are cheap and easy to replace.

Use a multi-meter to check and verify.

Check the fuses for the converter. You can use a meter to check out put of the converter.

Have you replaced the battery or disconnected it? On RVs the + wire is black or red. There breaker you are having the problem with will not reset if wires are crossed.
Disconnect one of the wires on the breaker and then see if it will reset. If it does you need to fix the problem causing the breaker to disconnect.

Yes they can go bad but typically don't 'short out' unless maybe from water intrusion, which could then cause the converter fuse to pop.

Why do you suspect you "blew your converter"?

So I replaced the bad 12v breaker.
That brought back the 12v power.
I bought a new battery just to be sure.

I'm still popping both 30 fuses in the converter.

I checked all the lines to the battery to insure they are on the right post. That's good

I pulled all fuses in the converter to try and isolate a problem.
Even with those pulled and the breakers down I blow both 30 amp fuses....

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Could be several things. A short somewhere, an appliance/motor pulling too much power, or a bad converter. If you are not handy with a meter, might be time to call a service only independent (mobile or shop). Good luck!

Disconnect the battery cables, replace the converter fuses then plug in to shore power and see if the fuses blow.

You are blowing the reverse polarity fuses, by your description....which blow to protect your converter when the battery wires are connected backwards.

How are you connected to the battery. Can you post a pic? What colors are the battery wires. As had been pointed out above, if you have black and white wires, the black goes to the positive. Some RVs are wired more like a house color scheme, and not an auto.

A pic of your connections would help tremendously

I can take pictures tomorrow.
I'm positive that it's all hooked up correctly. I have traced the lines 3 times just to be sure.
Red on positive, White on Ground.
Then I have the large red line going to my Generator cilidoide.
And the large black line grounding on the frame.

That's why this is so weird.
I'm going to double check my grounds and clean them up and go from there.

You are saying you have red, black, and white battery wires?

Can you tell which are to the generator, and which may go to the RV

What color wire is going from the 12 volt DC circuit breaker back to the battery?

1 large red wire going to the Gen.
1 smaller red wire going back to the trailer.
1 wire going to the front jack.

Large Black negative going to the base of the Gen.
2 Smaller White. 1 going right to the frame next to the battery. 1 going to the trailer brake junction box.

Did you try what I suggested 5 posts back?
That way you can tell if there is a short in the wiring or if the battery was installed wrong.

Camping trailers use DC residential wire colors. White is ground, Black (or Red) is positive. This is unlike vehicle DC wire colors.

Easy to confirm. There should be a white wire connected to the trailer frame near the battery box. If you (or someone) connects it to the Positive battery terminal the reverse polarity fuses in the converter will blow.

Ya the white wire to the frame is on the Negative. I have confirmed 3 times that all my wires are good.

So I pulled all wire i could and check them all. Checked and rechecked the leads.
Still blowing fuses.
I found a great flow chart for the converter that helps you find out if it's bad with a voltmeter.
So I'm going to do that.
If anyone else has any ideas let me know.
Cheers.

Of all the places I could think of as the worst place to install a circuit breaker it's on the bottom of a trailer frame. Ditto for the residential J-Box where the factory connects the cord from tow vehicle to all the TT wiring.

Another "to do" on my list, move the connections into an enclosure like used on Semi's for connecting their electric cord to trailers and move the circuit breaker into my "electrical compartment" I created out of the smallest forward compartment on my Micro Lite. This way the connections are no longer drenched by Northwest rain water or snow melt chemicals that are splashed up long after the snow goes away.

As for your issue with fuses blowing, first thing I'd do I disconnect Red Wire from converter, power it up, and check for output voltage. Should be around 13.6 or so. If so your Converter is good.

Next, disconnect Red wire from Battery (+) and reconnect red wire at converter. Power up the converter and see if you have 12 v power to lights etc. If so you have an issue with wiring between converter and Battery. If converter shuts down due to its internal "short proof" circuitry, you have a short to ground between circuit breaker and converter. Key is to systematically isolate sections of your system.
