15 amps?

Ran the a/c in my TT for the day while loading up for our trip. I think it was about 103 today so I don't think it ever turned off. Extension cord has a little char on it but I don't think it will be a future issue if I repurpose it. It was on a 15 amp breaker and that never tripped. Should I just chalk this up to Wally World quality? Wanting a 20 amp adapter now- any favorites?!

Ouch. Do you have a way to check you AC voltage when you are doing this? If you run too low a voltage the unit may run but low voltage causes premature wear on your unit, in a big way. It causes your unit to run hot, very hot. Not good at all to run with low voltage.

Ahh, you got the good stuff to protect your power. It's all good except the adapter, like you said, didn't like it. So it looks like you have good wiring going to the outlet you are using since you don't have that much of a voltage drop. Still could/should be higher. How old is the outlet. Good clean contacts will carry a lot more amps and not heat up. Maybe dropping in a new outlet would be a good idea. And make it a 20 amp outlet. Time for a new adapter too, obviously.

P.S. I forgot to add a bigger capacity cord too. You were almost there but need a boost in several areas.

Holy, you ran that on 15 Amp?
You probably want at least 12 awg cable with the proper ends and keep it short.
Are you on 30 Amp power?

Edit: should have said: can you get 30 Amp power?

In the long run, you probably really ought to invest in having a 30 or 50 amp RV recepticle installed. I lost 1 AC due to what Evereddie mentioned in an RV park years ago. With an EMS system installed it's easy to avoid this, but without it you're vulnerable to "brown out". Regular extension cord, plus length = voltage drop big time, and that cord will get hot for sure. So, 800$ plus for a new AC, possibly burning something else up, or the cheapest route, just install a dedicated RV recepticle. You may have only had the AC running, but remember the converter is drawing amperage as well, along with the fridge if you had it running. You had that cord beyond it's capacity. Odd that it didn't trip, or really do some damage.

Ok. Scratch the part I mentioned about the EMS. I see you have one. I still won't run anything on a regular recepticle, unless it were just to keep the fridge and lights on.

If 111 Volt is what you're getting it might be wise to look for an autoformer which can boost your Voltage by as much as 10%, makes it a lot easier on the appliances.

As everyone has been typing, I now realize that I have another 25' 30 amp cord tucked away in the TT- ironically the 15amp cord was on top of it so I used that. I do have someone that can help me put in a 30 amp outlet so that might be a better answer for the future. This is the first summer trip with this setup so I think I'm ok with losing a 5$ adapter. Really glad that the FIRST thing I installed in this unit was the PI protector.

Time to load up and head out- post more in 12 hrs!
