2 New 6 volt batteries, can I add the 12 volt battery?

I recently purchased a 2014 Rockwood Roo 19, which came with one 12 volt battery. I just bought two GC2 6 volt batteries from Sam's Club, to run in parallel, to replace the stock 12 volt. In my research leading up to the purchase, I read somewhere that mixing batteries might not be a good idea, even if the two 6 volts are joined to make a 12 volt. Is there a way to add the 12 volt battery to the parallel series? Or should this be avoided? The 6 V's are 220 amp hours, and the the 12 volt is a low end version rated much less than that. thanks.

The 6's need to be ran in series not parallel. Check out this sight if you have questions.

Connecting Batteries in Series or Parallel

For me that would be more trouble than it's worth. You could use a marine battery selector switch and have the two 6 volts in series on one line and the 12 volt on the other. From what I understand about batteries, if you run the two 6's in series and then parallel to the 12, the 12 will pull down the 6's.

That makes sense that the 12 would pull down the 6's. The two 6's are going to be way better than the stock battery. I think I'll be pretty happy with those and a solar charger. Thanks!

That's what I would do. I run two 12's in parallel. We always camp with at least water and electricity so we don't really need to go with two 6's. But I may when it's time to replace these 12's.

Sounds like good insight from members. I have heard one member say previously that he keeps his 12v available via battery switch just in case the 6 volts are drained. That way he has the ability to still get slides in while boon docking. We went with 4 6 volts due to the residential fridge and are pleased with change.
