2017 Rockwood 2306 120v electrical problem
So I have a 2017 Rockwood 2306 Mini lite that worked without a problem last year. Now it has started popping breakers in the trailer panel and also my house panel when plugged into a designated 20a outlet. I heard the tell tail electrical short sound coming from underneath the trailer, directly below the floor under the kitchen sink. I removed the bottom draw from sink base cabinet and can smell a serious short. Has any one ever had the panel off the underside of their trailer? Is there Romex and junction boxes down there? Anyone else had any serious electrical problems?

Shouldn't be any 110v junctions on the outside. There is an outlet at the end of the counter though...

I've seen a few junction boxes under the coroplast for slide out wiring but I don't believe your model has a slide, but yes, there often is romex under there.
I'm guessing you had some 'critters' holed up in there during storage and they got hungry.
They can make a mess of wiring insulation. (and other things too)

Correct, there is no slide on a 2306. I am confident there are no critters got up there because of the surroundings it was stored, and I know how persistent and destructive they can be. My first guess, if there is romex under there is that this is either a screw or a metal edge has worn through the insulation of the wire. The only way to see for sure is to remove the insulated shield from below. That’s more that I’m willing to take on, so looks as though it’s dealer time.

I would look in the bottom of the fridge compartment. I think there is a 120v receptacle in there. Mice love to chew wires which are covered with plastic (made from soybeans).

To bad you are so far away. You need someone with a little electrical experience. If it was me I would start by disconnecting shore power cord. Then unplug all 120 volt devices and appliances such as microwave and refrigerator. Turn of all breakers. Then using an OHM meter set to tone, I would test from each breaker terminal to ground. If a circuit shows a completed circuit you know which circuit to start tracing. If nothing found test from breaker to neutral. A completed circuit to neutral is either something that is still connected and on or a short to neutral.

I x2 on the dealer but also have been affected by mice. What if you shut all the breakers off, plug it in, then try switching on the breakers until you get a fault?

Deartruc has the right idea. Shut off all 120volt breakers including the main 30A one. Then plug in th unit to the house outlet. If it pops the House circuit breaker, then disconnect the cord from the side of the camper and try and reset the house breaker. If it holds, then the short is in the wire leading from the side of the camper to the circuit breaker box. If when you hook up the cord and nothing trips, then turn on the main,if still nothing turn on one breaker inside the camper at a time til you find the one that is bad. That will point you in the direction you need to look. Jay

I have pinned it down to the 15a accessories circuit that feeds all the outlets. Also I can hear a tell tale electrical buzz, smoke and distinct electrical smell from under the floor below the sink base cabinet. All pretty scary because if it caught fire it would be In an area that I can’t get to. Can anyone advise if they think Forest River will warrant this? I think it’s kind of a big deal from a safety standpoint, I really don’t want to start tearing apart a trailer that I have used for less than a year.

Unless you've added something to the suspect area or screwed something to the floor in that spot, I'd see no reason warranty won't cover it.
If it is buzzing and smoking by all means get it looked at before it catches fire or seriously electrocutes someone.

I agree with 5picker, unless it's something you've done, it will be a warranty issue. However, be prepared to wait a while for the dealer to get to it. It could sit on their lot for months.
If it were me, I'd contact them and pin them down on how long it'll take to get to it. If they can't promise you a time, then I'd contact Forest River and see if they'll authorize an independent RV tech to repair it.
You'll most likely have to pay for it and have FR reimburse you, but it may be a lot faster than getting the dealer to do it.

X2
You probably wouldn't have to drop the entire bottom... just enough to see the issue. Also, I don't see how anyone could say there's no way any critter got in there.

So i went onto the FR website and searched for dealers in my area. The nearest told me they don't get paid enough to take on this warranty fix ...Err ok?
So i called the dealer were i bought the trailer and their tech was not working because of personal reasons
At his point im not really feeling to good about buying a brand new trailer so if anything goes wrong it is covered under warranty. Just to add insult to injury i paid for extra coverage .

Whoa! Glad you found that pinched Romex before it possibly was worse.

Too bad you couldn't get a dealer to fix but in all honesty, you've probably done a better job. Good on you for being persistant.

Sorry about your dealers, but you just saved yourself weeks of calling about the status. Plus now you know it's right.
