2018 t30qbss shore power issue?

So we are having an issue with connecting to shore power. We have solar which get us through the day but as soon as the sun is down we sit at about 9.5V or so.

I do not know if we had a power inverter.

We have 600W of solar and that will get us up to 14.5V no problem.

The truck will also charge off of the 7 pin connector no problem getting us up to 12.6V without issue.

We've tried connecting to a 110 adapter (made it worse), connect to a 50amp adapter (no change) and removed the surge protector (no change), disconnected the solar (no change).

So we have power from about 9-6 and then we can not use anything beyond 1 light at a time.

Any ideas would help!

1st> to the Forum from Alaska!

2nd> It sounds a battery issue. Is your converter/charger working? It should give you 12v power when you plug-in to 120v or 50 amp.

I hope someone with a t30qbss can help you.

first be sure you have power at the pedestal. Be sure all your 120-volt breakers are turned on. Be sure your two 40 amp reverse polarity fuses on you converter are good. The converter supplys 12 volts to your trailer when on shore power. Do your 120-volt outlets work? WH on electric? Ref.? Micro? AC?

it would help if you can answer the following questions.
- when plugged into shore power do the other 110 vac devices work (a/c, microwave, water heater, 110 convenience outlets)? this will tell us if you are actually getting 110 vac power in.
- when plugged into shore power and with the solar shut down do the 12 vdc devices work normally (lights, awning, vents)? if you unplug from shore power again with solar shut down do they work the same? this will tell us if the converter is outputting 12 vdc power.

you gave some 12 volt voltage measurements. how were they taken? do you have a meter and can you take a 12 volt measurement right at the battery terminals. turn off the solar but stay plugged into shore power. take a measurement at the battery terminals. it should be around 13.6 volts if the batteries are being charged by the converter. now unplug from shore power and take the same measurement. it should drop.

from here on i am assuming that you are not getting a charge (the 13.6 volts) from the converter. and i am also assuming you are getting 110 vac into the trailer and that the other 110 vac devices work (a/c, microwave, tv, water heater, a fan or light in a 110 vac outlet). if this is true your problem is somewhere between the input to the converter and the batteries. here is a list of some things to look at:

- 110 vac circuit breaker for converter is on. flip it off and back on just to make sure.
- converter is not outputting 12 vdc because the reverse polarity fuses are blown. pull them out and test them with a meter.
- battery disconnect switch is set to have the batteries off line and not connected to the converter. turn it to the other position while plugged into shore power and take the same voltage measurements at the battery terminals to see if this has an effect.
- 12 vdc resettable circuit breaker has tripped. try resetting this.

not sure about your coach and it's power/wiring design, but unless you have a residential 120v only fridge, it's doubtful you have an inverter...

but, what do you mean by 'having issues with shore power'? are you plugged in and just not receiving any power? are you NOT plugged in? I suppose your coach is a 30amp variety.
Where exactly are you 'plugging into' shore power? your home? rv park or campground?
Is there a circuit breaker AT the shore power plug?

It sounds like your solar is charging your batteries, and helping to offset 12v usage during the daytime... are any 120v outlets working, ever?

I want send some photos of what I've looked at( doesn't mean I know what it is)
Also what setting should I have my meter on test the fuse?

And a new bit of information... I have turned the battery disconnect and unplugged from shoreline. to off but I'm still sitting at 13.1VClick image for larger version

You mentioned solar. Is it off? I’m not totally sure about this but 13.1 at the batteries without being connected to shore power seems just a bit high, though plausible. I’m wondering if that is coming from the solar. We need to get to solar out of the picture and see if you are getting a charge from shore power. At least that is what I am thinking.

I guess I don't know how to actually disconnect the solar.

There should be a 30-40 amp circuit breaker before and after your Zamp Solar charge Controller. Below is an example of one type of circuit breaker you may have.

You have a meter. What is the voltage at your battery terminals? With & without the Battery disconnect.

I assume it's this.

That looks like a battery main fuse going to your inverter.

If the fuse is blown, you will get no power from your battery. Measure the DC voltage on both ends of the fuse to ground. The voltage should be the same on both ends.

The original issue was problem connecting to shore power. I haven't seen an answer to post #3 by cavie from the OP who already said solar was getting him through the daylight hours. To help, don't we need to know if he's getting shore power from the pedestal before we try to trouble shoot anything else?
