30 amp inlet issue

Managed to melt part of both plug and inlet. No problem getting a new cord but the inlet is a different issue. The hole from the old inlet is 2 3/8 . Every replacement I have found has an od of 2 7/8. The old plug is a Furrion and . trying to get spec info from them is impossible. My parts dealer has the Furrion inlets on back order from Furrion. I'm not real excited about cutting into the side of my trailer. Anybody run into the problem. What solution?

Dump Furrion and go with Marinco, lot easier to source. And better quality.

A rotary rasp in a cordless drill. Measure body of new Marinco receptacle and enlarge hole as necessary. An easy fix and less brain damage than trying to find something to fit the original hole. Things that need larger holes are OK. Trying to fit something smaller into a large hole is a bugger. Only solution for them is to cover the hole with a piece of new material and drill a new hole in the cover.

Would it work to switch to a SmartPlug? I don’t know the size of hole they need, though.

When I installed my EMS, the Furion power inlet had one of the wire screws cross threaded so it stripped when I removed it to add wire. So I researched a replacement. Same Furion inlet available via Amazon for $60+. Got a generic one for $17. It did have a larger diameter. I used a drill to remove as much material as I could, sheet metal & wood. Then I used my Dremel tool with sanding drums to remove the remaining material and smooth the hole round. Yes, a PITA. It worked and seals well, especially since I used silicone in addition to the inlet's gasket.

Yep... check out the SmartPlug.
If I ever have an issue, it is what I'll get.

SmartPlug

I had to replace my Furrion plug due to loose connections causing wires to melt. Overton's has them for about $70.

I disagree - the OP now has the part number for the plug.

Which is why I said "not much help" instead of "no help"

Upgrade to the Marinco, source it from Amazon. Woodworking rasp in a cordless drill for the opening and rewire easily. Black wire on the gold screw & white wire on the silver screw assuming it's a 30amp.

Smart Plug is an expencive over kill. The trick is to BE Smart and twist. It's called a twist lock plug for a reason. Twist and install the locking ring.

Disagree...
Installed a Smart Plug when my old "twist and lock failed for a second time in 6 years.. Always checked to make sure it was "twisted and locked", but inlet on motor home had started to melt. All connections were checked and tight.
Installed the Smart Plug about 3 months ago, and so far it works as advertised. Plug inserted and locks securly.
Got the set up with the stainless steel inlet. Pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for. Overkill, no, not where our safety is concerned.
Considering it was designed for use in a marine enviorment, where conditions are much more severe, should hold up well on the Lexi.
But, to each his/her own.
Grumpy

Enlarging a hole with a rotary hasp or even with the old fashioned rasp file isn't too difficult. Many of the melting's that occur are from the factory install. The cables attached to the back were never tightened down enough and causes a weak connection which leads to excessive resistance and with the amp draw it heats everything up to melting point. We never do until something happens or melts... but access from inside or pulling receptacle on the outside to check those cable attach bolts/screws. The Furrion plugs with the little LED power light are famous for the LED going out, but all is still fine. Just a pain they can't source an LED that runs longer than 100 hours.
