30 amp outlet stopped working

Hello. We had a 30 amp outlet installed about 3 months ago which we were using to plug in a Sandstorm toy hauler. It suddenly stopped working..the surge protector indicates no juice coming to to the outlet. What could be the problem?

I'll play Captain Obvious and ask if you've checked the circuit breaker at the panel that feeds the new outlet?

Even if there is one in the outlet enclosure where you plug in, check the main panel to see if there isn't one there too.

If it's not circuit breaker the next obvious problem would be a loose connection. That's best left to an experienced person to delve into.

Breaker tripped in your electric panel comes to mind.

First check the breaker that feeds the outlet. Turn it off and back on, even if it looks ok. How did you determine it is dead? Voltage tester? If breaker is good and you are sure the outlet is dead then turn off the breaker, open up the outlet, and check for loose wires. If you are anything other than totally comfortable working with electricity then get an electrician to check it.

After running and checking everything... Remove the 30AMP receptacle on the outside. Usually attached by screws... since they've been known to be replaced before!
Check for burned, melted or corroded wires attaching to the receptacle outlet.
Here comes that quality control thing again... When the receptacle was installed, if the cables were not securely attached voltage will pass, but because of the loose or improper connection it is harder for the power to go across. As the load passes there is resistance and heat is generated. Long story short... check behind your outside 30A receptacle. Ask any electrician how many calls were resolved just by properly connecting cables.

Disconnect power at the supply BEFORE doing the above. Lock Out Tag Out )LOTO) is a procedure followed by commercial and industrial electricians for a reason. Circuits should be off for testing as much as possible and powers back on when necessary. OSHA May be a pain in the butt at times but there is a reason for it: prevent injury or death!

I could be many different problems but as mentioned, you need to start with the basics and that is check the breaker feeding that outlet. You mentioned it stopped suddenly so I'm suspecting you were using too much current and tripped the breaker that protects that circuit.

If you do not know where the breaker is located or how to check to see if it is tripped, call the person/company that installed the outlet. They can tell you.

I recently had an issue with my 30A Surge Protector: I suddenly lost power to the TT and the SP showed no power at all from the pod & everyone else in the CG had electricity. After I checked, rechecked, fiddled with stuff, etc., I finally discovered the SP prongs had been bent just enough to cut off electricity. It's probably not the issue you're dealing with, but it only takes a second to check it out. Good luck & hope it's an easy fix!

Hey thanks for the great replies. So the electrician who installed the 30 amp returned to check things out. I read him all the replies everybody here sent. He put a meter on the receptacle wires and it was hot. Went to the panel and that was ok. No burned wires, surge protector was showing no reading. Unscrewed the wires to the 30 amp , rescrewed them in worked ok. Surge protector showed 2 green lights..good to go. He believes it was "gremlins" somewhere..really he was unsure as to cause. It was nothing in the trailer or its' power cord. The great rver in the sky smiled down on us this time!.

This tells me his original connections of the wires to the outlet/receptacle, were in question.

Glad it is working again.

So it was working BEFORE he checked it, or started working after?
