30 Amp Question
We have a travel trailer that runs on 30 amp. When I plug in my 30 amp to the electricity using the regular 30 amp male plug it doesn't work. It only works when I use the 110 adapter and plug into the 110 or regular type electricity socket. Any ideas why?

Is the 30A socket powered up?

I assume it is. This has happened at multiple different campgrounds, I thought maybe I am doing something wrong. It works fine when I use the adapter but I'd like to not have to use the adapter all the time.

I am assuming that by saying :Plugging into 110 you are using an adapter to plug the TT into a standard 15/20 A household outlet. If it works with the adapter, then RV power cable is OK. If it doesn't work when you use the 30A RV plug directly into the pedestal, then either the outlet in the pedestal or the breaker in the pedestal is bad or turned off. Try turning the 30A breaker in the pedestal off and on.

Campgrounds usually have circuit breakers above their outlets. Are you making sure to turn on the circuit breaker at the campground pedestal?

The adapter just goes on the end of the 30A cord, so it shouldn't be anything with the cord/trailer. At a lot of parks, people turn off the breaker to the 30 when they plug in/unplug, not so much the 20A breakers. Next time you're out, check if the breaker's on?

Some people turn the pedestal breaker off before plugging in and unplugging their RV. If the previous camper turned the breaker off and left it off then you will have to turn the breaker back on, preferably after you plug in. Turning the pedestal breaker off when you plug in/unplug saves your plug from the arching that happens. In other words it's a good idea along with using a multimeter to test the outlet for proper voltage before you plug in.

As a couple others said, make sure the 30 amp breaker is on in the panel on the pedestal. More often then not, they have been flipped off in the campgrounds we have visited. I've even gotten into the habit of flipping them off if they are on when I plug in, then flipping it back on and flipping it off again, when I unplug.

Here is an example pic of a campground pedestal (but styles/outlets vary by campground).
In this pic the circuit breaker #2 would control the 30 amp outlet. As good camping practice dictates, you do want to flip this circuit breaker off before connecting... or prior to disconnecting your RV's power cord to keep the arcing from occurring.

You don’t see a rectangular picture of a gray power box? I see it in the original and where you quoted the original.

It is a good practice to turn the breaker on the pedestal off before plugging in and before pulling the plug. When I leave a campsite, the breaker is off.
