30 amp to 50 amp adapter.

I am going to get a 30 to 50 amp adapter for times when the 30 amp connection might be bad or unavailable. I have this cord (yellow) from the camper to the black cord which just let's me plug in to the house farther away.


Now here is the adapter from black cord to house


My question (this may sound dumb but I'm new to all this so better safe than sorry) is that this black cord would be fine being used with the adapter right? It would still be like 30 amp going through right?

It sounds like you have a 30-amp RV. You will be fine with using a 30 to 50 adapter to use as you described. Make sure you buy it at an RV supply place (not Home Depot or Lowes, etc.).

The only potential problem is that the 50-amp breaker in the pedestal won't trip at 35 amps, so you'll be relying on the master breaker in your RV (which should be 30 amps) to protect you for over-current. That should be ok.

You've got it. That will enable you to plug into a 50 amp receptacle at a campground and plug your 30 amp cord into it.

That is what I got. I am planning on using an RV 50 amp pedestal from Home Depot (they don't carry the 30 amp one locally) and use the adapter when home. Then, when I upgrade, I will be ready.

If you don t have surge protector, I would at least check the voltage with a meter that is coming out of the adapter....to make sure it is 110-120.....and has only one hot pin......surge protector should be one of first items on wish list....
