50 Amp only Shore Power

I have 30 amp unit. Should I care a 50 amp to 30 amp cord? In other words, would there be a situation where my campsite only has 50 amp output? So would need adapter...Or...should I assume would always be a 30 on same post?

carry a dogbone adapter. You never know when the 30 amp plus on the pedestel will be bad and you can plug into the 50 Amp as well

I've been at a couple of places that have only had 50amp connections:

compare the price between an adaptor and a 50 amp cord and you will soon see you have no need for a 50 amp cord with a 30 amp camper.

It is good to carry a 50 to 30 amp adapter, anyway. I had one, when I had a 30-amp TT, and it saved us a lot of headaches! on a few occasions, the 30-amp plug was worn and had issues. I plugged into the 50-amp with the adapter and it worked like a champ! Only once did we stop at an RV park and it only had 50-amp sites available. Again, I was glad I brought along the adapter.

Even if you only use it once, you will be glad you have it.

I was at a park last summer. 30 amp service was browning out (low voltage). Guy in the office was selling 50/30 adapters and telling people to use the 50 amp service. I was also at a park where the 30 amp plug was so loose, my cord wouldn't stay plugged in. 50 amp was fine.

Think he was referring to a Dog Bone style adapter and not a complete cord. That's how I read it. I could be wrong

I carry a 50 to 30 and a 30 to 15. You never know. I did use the 30 to 15 once.

get both. 50 to 30 and 15 to 30 and be done with it. they will be worth the cost the first time you have to use one.

IF you read all 10 posts you will see that many campers carry a 50-30 amp "dogbone" adapter, and I do. Once we got to a campground that had only 50 amp outlets, no problem just use the adapter. A few times we have arrived at our site and found the 30 amp receptacle to be loose and my cord would not stay plugged in, again the dogbone came to the rescue. As "Kimber45" stated: Price a dogbone adapter, which is maybe 2 ft. in length vs. a 25 foot extension/adapter cored with a male 50 amp and a 30 female receptacle. Extreme difference in price

Hard to believe a park would be wired that way. Most likely have 50A 240V wired to each pedestal and the 30A breaker is off one of those legs.

Maybe. Maybe all the 30 amps were off one leg and by using the dog bone I was fed from the other one....

I remember the lady ahead of me complaining about having to buy the adapter. Clerk said that they would buy it back when she left. She said why can't you just loan it to me. Clerk said is was a liability issue. (Damn lawyers)

If that was the case, fire the electrician.

Have one, and would not be without one. Like everyone else, I have had to use it due to bad 30 amp plugs, and once due to only a 50 amp plug. There are a fair number of parks that if the plug isn't loose, the circuit breaker for the 30 amp is bad.

For about $15 - $30, how can you not carry one? Cheap insurance.

I have both 50 to 30amp and 15 to 30amp doggone. Have had to use the 50amp twice last month, do to bad 30 connections. Last year, I loaned it to a couple who were new and trying out their new rv. They had a bad 30amp breaker. It worked so well for them, they went out and bought one the next afternoon.

We were at a cg yrs ago that only had 50A service, they LOANED anyone who needed it the 50A to 30A adapter, I sure thought that was risky for them, but great customer service, ... bought my own soon afterwards, ... have used it since, to move from a faulty 30A outlet to a 50A, handy tool to carry, ...

I bought a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter dogbone upon the advice of posters here last spring. So far, I only "needed" it at one CG because the 30 amp plug & outlet blocked the 15 amp outlet. It was an odd pedestal configuration. I like to run a seperate power cable for outdoor cooking to not overload the 30 amp TT system. I was glad I had the adapter.

I purchased a conntek 14963 adapter from Amazon. It plugs into a 50 amp socket and has a 30 amp socket for your Rv. Plus it has a 15 amp lead which I installed two electrical outlets in my rv to add potential power to my unit.
