WOW!! The campground owner retained a lawyer! I received an email from his attorney requesting I get a 2nd estimate from a 2nd repair center!

Good luck and I hope the new estimate is even higher from the 2nd shop. They're gonna stretch this out for all it's worth. Maybe we all can take a road trip to visit this pos owner.

X2 - My blowout lesson was fortunately learned on a pop-up many years ago (at no cost thankfully!) We rented a US Army Pop-up, camped at the US Army RV camp and fried the electrics on THEIR wiring - they took full responsibility and I got a GREAT "Lesson learned"

Unfortunately, these units are on a continium - from a simple surge supressor to sophisticated electrical management boxes. We started with a Surge Supressor and were happy with that for years untill we got our son-of-space-shuttle 828WKS 5er last year

After doing a bit of research, I decided it was worth the money to buy insurance in the form of a "Electricial Management" box. The next decision was did we want to get a permanent mount or a shore mount. Well I still have a wistfullness for a Class A, so in consideration of cost, we got the shore mounted unit (and a nice lock to secure it to the pole LOL):
Progressive Industries EMSPT50C Surge Protector : Amazon.com : Automotive

If you have a 30 AMP rig this is what you need:
Amazon.com: Progressive Industries PT30C 30 Amp Portable Electrical Management System: Automotive

I just handed it over to my insurance. My agent told me to ignore his attorney and let them handle it. He also said if his attorney contacts me just to tell her my insurance accepted the claim. I refuse to get another estimate, I will not let them dictate who or where to have my camper repaired. I refuse to put mileage on my truck as we'll wait several weeks to get to get another estimate for his ignorance. I will let my insurance and their attorneys deal with this pos.

I think that's going to be the best thing to do.

Well I just hung up with State Farm, the person handling my claim was pretty impressed with all the pictures and the wiring diagram's as well as litature how a 50 to 30 amp adapter is wired and works. He stated that with all of the photo evidence they will go after him for the damages! We are thankful our camper did not catch on fire but I am still pissed at this man for not having the testicular fortitude to accept responsibility for his own mistake!

Excellent! Good for you. Now, I do have one question. If need be, is there any way to get License and Inspections (L&I) involved? I ask cause I would imagine the owner has to, by law, make sure everything within his establishment is safe for the public and in proper working order. Just a thought.

Now that I do not know, I never thought of that but you sure did put a pretty good idea in my head. I will be calling the courthouse in Cameron and will try to find out! THANKS!!!!

I know the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office inspects our electrical systems/service since we are outside the city limits and the parish doesn't have code enforcement. You might check with them also

Just hung up with the Cameron Parish building permit office, he wrote down my complaint, and how receptacle was wired want's me to send the pictures and video. Looks like the owner of the campground will be getting a visit from a Cameron Parish Building inspector! Next call, State Fire Marshall.

Good, now get fired up and exploit every resource available and throw them at this lowlife. He'll be sorry he took you lightly. Make sure you let your insurance company know what you're doing too so they are totally aware what's going on.

The best thing was to turn it over to your insurance co. I also like that you are turning him into the regulatory agencies. keep us informed.

The plot thickens. His attorney stated to my State Farm claim manager their defenses are, we did not have specific permission to camp there(his neighbor made the arrangements for us to camp there and the owner showed h where we could set up). We were on his private property, not his campground. We did not pay a fee to camp there( he told our friend it would be $75,when we asked him what to do with payment he said keep it and put it towards repairs). We hooked up to the wrong outlet,he or an employee make sure campers are hooked up correctly.

....so therefore he is not responsible. Oh and that he offered $500 but I refused his offer. I have over $2000 of damage and he offered $500. Me taking that $500 with $2000 worth of damage is like wiping my rear end before I take a dump, makes no sense at all!
